Paying for toilets in Zurich HB

Ok so I realise that paying for a public toilet is not unusual but what makes me mad is that men pay 1 CHF and women 2 CHF at Zurich HB. And then what makes me even more mad is the fact that in a desperate moment, I pay 1 CHF and walk into the mens by accident / urgency then have to turn around and pay another 2 CHF for the womens loo! How annoying is that?

It's 2CHF for the more modest kind of gentleman, too, you know.

If that's any consolation...

I agree. Usually do; but this was a matter of some urgency

Re: Paying for toilets in Zurich HB

Anyway, I like the toilets, since they're always clean (if not always smelling of roses), there's a hook on the back of the door for the dry and safe stowage of shopping bags and jackets, the light show from the back panel is really quite trippy, and the handsoap smells delicious.

I just make sure I get my money's worth and always take a book in.

They are single use. You'll always get a clean bowl.

Re: Paying for toilets in Zurich HB

I'm always happy to pay for McCleans. They are the cleanest public restrooms I've ever encountered. I think it's probably the best 2 CHF you can spend.

Would you rather not pay and have to deal with an infested and diseased cesspit?

No I don't mind paying. It just seems unfair that women have to pay more and then I was really p***ed (nice choice of words eh) because I was stupid enough to walk into the gents first and paid for my stupidity.

Re: Paying for toilets in Zurich HB

Years ago I was availing myself of the sit-down facilities there in the Zurich McClean. There must have been a junkie in the next cubicle with a bad hit because he started screaming and kicking the base of the wall in a spasming (for want of a better word) kind of way. The little cleaner came along and knocked on his cubicle door "Are you ok in there sir?"

No idea what was going on in there... it went on for a while, and the guys were still standing outside when I left. I'm not sure if they've since installed blue lights in the cubicles now.

Re: Paying for toilets in Zurich HB

I agree with Gooner, I somewhat a toilet connoisseur and don’t mind spending 2CHF checking how clean the toilet areas are. You can always tell a good place by the state of their toilets like the shine on a mans shoe! I never eat in a restaurant with dirty toilets, what would the kitchen look like!!

At Zürich HB , you can always go to the Marchè , where you pay CHF 1 for using the facillities . What is really good about Marchè is that the give you a coupon for the same amount , which you can use to pay for a coffee , bun etc. Great idea , I think and the toilets are very pleasant .

Apparently you don't know where to have a bargain wee...

Know where the water fountain is under the statue in front of Zurich HB..? (please don't wee in the fountain..!) If you can hold it just a few seconds more then walk (or run) towards the exit in the direction of the Apple Shop (direction Kebab stand). On the right side about half way there you'll find the 1.-chf. (both men and women pay 1.-chf.) toilets.

now enjoy your bargain wee and don't forget to put the lid down...

It's a simple matter of maintenance. pisoir vs. lavatory. There's more to clean in a lavatory.

Surely it won't bankrupt you, it's not like you're using McCleans 20 times a day.

If they offered you one of these, would you use a pisoir?

Yup, many moons ago it was -.20 and to say that it was ten times less clean would be an understatement...

But speaking of spending money at the main station. 90 Fr./year special offer for a space at the new subterranean bicycle garage. It's going to be crowded like Greenland down there.
