comparis.ch blocked access to their website/services in several countries.

Hello everyone, I currently live in Romania and I'll move to Switzerland at the end of this month. Until recently I was using Comparis.ch to look for rent. But now I can't access it from my mobile or from home.
I noticed I can access it from work (where I have a German IP).
So I wrote comparis.ch to ask them what happened.

This is their answer:
Hello,

Thank you for your message.

To ensure the availability , stability and speed of our website, we’ve decided to close the access to our site for the following countries :

- China
- Russia
- Japan
- Brazil
- India
- Romania
- Ukraine
- Turkey
- Korea
- Viet Nam
- Argentina

We thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards
Rachelle Egger

I find it interesting that Romania is the only EU country in their list.
To me this looks like discrimination and such behavior is similar to communist countries like China ,Russia and North Korea.
I am very disappointed. Seems like a xenophobic ban to me.

Is there an institution in Switzerland where I can raise a complaint for this?

Re: comparis.ch blocked access to their website/services in several countries.

Using Crome browser of PC or laptop, add 'Hola better internet' extension, and once added, click on the new flame image, in top right extn. bar of your Chrome browser and select the Swiss flag.
The vpn should then bypass any country restrictions.

Thank you but I liked using the comparis applications on Android to search rent ads. I'm not happy using VPN's and proxies as the speed decreases dramatically .

Summary:
- you think it is ok to block countries like China, Russia, North Korea
- you think it is not ok to block your own country
- you blame others from being xenophobic

I think it's not ok to block website access to any country. As it is not ok to block certain websites in some countries.

No, read it again. The comment was that Switzerland (well, one company) is blocking websites the same way that countries such as China, Russia and N Korea do.

Re: comparis.ch blocked access to their website/services in several countries.

Sorry for offering a practical solution above, as I see this is politically motivated complaint.

FYI, Switzerland is non-EU, Comparis is a private company; one doesn't have to adhere to any EU political niceties, the other can do as they please.

Any complaints should (until Dec.31st) be addressed to:

Didier Burkhalter
CH-3000 Bern

or to the CEO of Comparis, whom I can't be bothered to find.

HTH

Re: comparis.ch blocked access to their website/services in several countries.

I'd guess that they check the IP of who is putting a heavy load on their server by country or region. If Romania is one of them, then tough.

Their core business is serving Switzerland, they're not going to put a great deal of effort into helping you. The amount of money they make from the blocked countries is probably minimal.

Just use a VPN or proxy.

And instead of comparing yourself to China, Russia and North Korea, look at Japan. They're cool.

How would you feel if Google would block Switzerland or any other country based on the same arguments?

I'd say Yahoo!

Is it inherent in the Romanian psyche to have massive chips on ones shoulder .... or is it just EF that seems to attract them?

No , I don't hold a grudge, yet. It was just practical to use their services to find housing and compare health insurances and other type of insurances.

I'd be mildly peeved and move on - and they are a global company so it's a crap comparison.

I just called www.gambinospizza.ro and they won't deliver to Switzerland. Racist bastards!

Re: comparis.ch blocked access to their website/services in several countries.

Since comparis.ch has English language and has feature likes "moving to Switerland"? I'd say their target customers are not only from Switzerland no? Just people that are living or moving to Switzerland.

It's easy to say you would accept crap like this when it's not actually happening to you.

Oh FFS. Get your head out of your arse. I spend a considerable amount of time and money bypassing geoblocks.

In the time you've spent whining on here you could have resolved the problem yourself.

Before complaining about Comparis, search a bit on the forum and check what happens with your IP address if you are located in Romania (or any other country except for Switzerland) and identified as a spammer

You can still use their services via a vpn, as suggested, and vpn's are available for android ...... but if it's too slow don't use it - but don't complain, either.

'Course you can complain, but only using a vpn, or using your work German IP address are the only alternatives to enable you to keep using Comparis from Romania - so it's possibly a bit futile.
