Perhaps I should have gone with Air France, at least if they don't get you off the ground they'll put you into a hotel...

Why did you used this picture?
People in that plane didn't stay in an hotel, they die

Why are you asking over six years after that was posted?

Thread revival.

Anyone here have experience of them recently?
Has flown with them just recently:
1. Overall OK experience.
2. Although there emerged one brilliant guy, who decided, that airplane is the best place to tell everyone about his civil rights to be a menace to common good, the crew was professional and handled that situation well.
3. Surprisingly slow customer service. Never managed to got any response during the booking process before the booking in question expired.
4. Baggage handling, was slightly better than average (quicker).
5. Sky Team business lounges are helping a lot and sucking hard at the same time. They are better, than waiting in any more crowded area and provide some level of comfort, but still much worse than the pre-pandemic experience.
6. KLM (combined with AF) damaged only 1 my piece of luggage and delayed the luggage just once for 2 days in over 150 segments since 2018. Never argued and just paid the damages (actually, only the deduction of my other insurance - don't care how they handle the rest between them). That is lower, than the same stats for our local plane operator and its parent company in my particular case. And much lower (percentage wise), than BA and its allies.

Not recently, but the cardinal rule with KLM is never book a connection via Schihol (ships hell) less than 90 minutes for intra-schengen or 120 minutes to/ from non-schengen. You might be able to do gate to gate in less time, but your baggage can’t.

One of their runways is a 30 minute taxi from the terminal.
You want to see what hell looks like ? Its deffo not Schiphol.

Its the worst airport in Europe, hell, even Luton is much better and faster experience.

Re: Avoid KLM - the flag carrier that think's its a budget airline

Pros of cons of KLM

Pros:
- those little porcelain houses filled with gin you get in business class.
- the staff have more of a sense of humour than on Swiss, Lufthansa etc.

Cons:
- Flying KLM typically involves hubbing in Schiphol which is only marginally more navigable than Heathrow or Frankfurt, and has some anal ground staff (but probably not worse than in Heathrow or Frankfurt).

I think that's about all I can think of.

I guess I would place CdG between Heathrow and Frankfurt on the hell scale. Anyway, definitely KLM/Schiphol is better than AF/Paris.

Re: Avoid KLM - the flag carrier that think's its a budget airline

Christ, I started this thread over 6 years ago! Well, you'll all be delighted to know that that my personal boycott of KLM still stands I've not flown with them at all in all that time. I've even had business travel rebooked to other airlines in the meantime also learned my lesson and have never again booked through a third party either. There was also more than a little schadenfreude following the recent bail outs they've needed too.

As more and more flag carriers take on a budget approach for short haul travel with extras for food and baggage, I struggle to see why anyone would fly that way anymore. Why pay premium for a budget product? Only advantage is the offer of destinations, but between Zurich, Basel and Geneva, easyjet has everywhere in Europe pretty well covered. Plus I'd rather spend 3 hours on a Swiss train to Geneva than 2 hours enduring a KLM transfer at Shithol Airport.
