System rant

Dear Sys Admin,

If I spend 2 days working on a <insert expletive>ing complicated excel file, saving it at regular intervals, I do not expect:
1) For when Excel crashes to toast all the complex formulas and formatting
2) For the "restore previous version" to give me ones from a week ago.

I enclose a large spike for you to insert.

Regards

Your mortal enemy

Re: System rant

Storing the documents on a authorised server with appropriate back-up systems in place - Sysadmin's problem

Storing the documents locally on a dodgy laptop (they're all dodgy these days), not making use of the "Save as" feature and not doing regular backups - Your problem.

When writing VBA code for Excel, I tend to implement a version control locally to my PC which I'd update a few times a day (as well as the server back up).

I expect that kind of thing is not allowed in the finance world though.

Re: System rant

I blame the IT BA for making such a crappy file in the first place who thinks strikethrough and a fill format change is perfectly acceptable to indicate a functional change!

This is someone who saves the file to sharepoint with links to LOCAL files!

Yep! Nothing!

After and hour of redoing stuff - it has done the same thing. I'm going for a 3 hour lunch - pass the wine list!
