| | Re: Big girls need to suck it up
I agree that being fat is not ideal, however, linking weight to being lazy is neither correct nor helpful. Most of the massively overweight people I know happen to be very hard workers, yet the invest their energy in something other than how they look.
Bitching about a brand that specialises in a certain look and ideology not making clothes for someone who does not fit that narrow brand of beauty is a bit like demanding a catholic sermon in a protestant church. This is especially baffling in the US where there is a tremendous range of alternatives.
What is a bit difficult is that the idea of "fat" is very variable. To me, someone like Nicole LeBris or Ashley Graham is not fat, to others they are manatees. So I do think that it would make (business) sense to maybe add an XXL to their range, which would be a generous UK 16, but not for them to try and cover the "real" plus size market.
Another thing that annoyed me with the comments on that article is the bile from both sides but mostly the slimmer users. Some people are naturally skinny, others are sturdier, some feel it is a priority to work at being slim, others just do their best to stay healthy. All of those things are fine by me, but to think that you are in some way superior based on your weight (skinny or fat! skinny-bashing is daft too) is just not terribly clever. I'm never quite sure what to make of those who are truly morbidly obese as I just don't understand the person or those who care for them, but you really never know why someone is that big. Looking at them like they are dirt on your shoe does not help.
For my part, my thyroid problem means that my weight can shoot up rather quickly until my medication is adjusted. At the moment I am on 4 times the dose I had a few months ago and it's still not enough. I'm tempted to just up my dose because it's upsetting to eat right and work out and STILL put on weight. People are so quick make assumptions about you based on what they see. Yes, most people are overweight because they eat more than they should but that still does not make them bad people or give you the right to judge them.
Still, I reckon the complaining in this case does have a strong whiff of entitlement about it. We can't have everything we want and as long as you are not severely impeded in achieving your life goals or forced to go naked because there is nothing else, companies can do as they please.

This thread utterly repulses me.
Your despise for women who may not fit your criteria of beauty is just heart-breaking.
As if beauty and thinness were a virtue.
I'm not even in the overweight category, yet I feel insulted by the comments in this thread.
This, exactly this, coined to despicable perfection, is the feeling that vulnerable young ladies pick up unconsciously and then apply as their life-long reflection instead of realizing that it's just superficial perception, void of meaning.
Is that what we teach them ? that happiness of a man's attention relies on their beauty and on being slim?
Can you even imagine if women decided to get together and pull apart your masculinity?

No one mentioned criterias or beauty or perfection or anything like the bullshit you have written.

| | | | | A valid point is that the OP is a guy, and he didn't have to bother reading the media article he linked to in his original post. I seriously doubt that he is personally affected by any sizing decisions of VS, so he should find something else to complain about.

Ricky's not so buff, either, is he. But he looks pretty happy, as does she.

Take a single mother with 2 kids. Her day will start early, end late and be full on in between. The idea of 'just popping down the gym' for an hour can't be done - your shattered and you can't leave the kids anyway.
Single parents have my total admiration they do far more than childless people who have a few hours to head off on their latest fitness fancy each day. Far from the weight they have gained being a sign of laziness, it is simply showing they are running at maximum capacity every day.

They may get unhealthy through lack of proper exercise but even an hour of hard exercise a day really doesn't burn many calories.
