Inappropriate stuff in bakery...

There is this type of snack here that is called "De 5er und s'Weggli" that I had the chance to photograph (the 5 rappen and the type of bread name)... but I think Swiss bakeries need to start accept the modern age... if it would be a real gold coin, it would be alright however.

Re: Inappropriate stuff in bakery...

Bread and chocolate is a popular, favourite morning snack for children .... it appears to be a take on that.

Maybe because the weggli looks like a couple of bum cheeks.

Given the type of bread, I assume it's an allegory on money coming out of the Swisses' arses.

Traditionally it is "served" with a Branche

I for one am glad they use a chocolate coin instead

I think the moral of the story is that children shouldn't put coins in their mouth - just in case .......

I agree - they should stick a chocolate credit card in the crack instead.

By the way it's only your mind and how you choose to see it that makes it inappropriate.

Re: Inappropriate stuff in bakery...

As mentioned in other posts, that item refers to the saying, "Me cha nöd de Füüfer und s' Weggli ha" ("You can't have the nickel and the roll"), dating back to those times long gone when a Weggli cost five centimes. When I was a kid (which was briefly after the Battle of Marigniano), a Weggli already cost 10 centimes, so the saying must have been coined some time after the legendary Rütli Oath.

The same phenomenon caused by inflation can be observed in other languages too. I mean, who would reveal their thoughts for just a penny these days?

OP, it would be good if you came back and explain what it is you find inappropriate.
Is it the arselike shape?
Is it the name?

Personally, I think those buns are too tight to look real

Re: Inappropriate stuff in bakery...

Incredible that you think this is inappropriate

Modern age? EVERY kid I know and knew including me considers bread (especially Weggli) and a Schoggistängeli to be an absolutely normal snack. Haven't you ever had it? I still eat it as it is just plain yummy.

And I thought my fellow Swiss had a sense of humor (and every one I know doesn't take the "5er unds Weggli wöle" statement seriously all the time, depending on the tone of the person stating it)- thank God that I know many who would find this Weggli hilarious.

Apart from that - if your main complaint is that the coin isn't a gold coin, you (as a Swiss) should know that Schoggitaler come in gold wrapping (I'm sure you also had to sell them as a kid?).
So where is the problem? Buy a Weggli and stick a Schoggitaler still in its foil wrapping into it - hey presto, there's your gold Füfer und Weggli.

I for one think the bakery found a hilarious and modern way of turning a saying which is well known in CH into something that basically every kid here knows and loves. I would definitely buy one!

A Landjäger in a double Bürli could be construed as looking inappropriate as well

Anyway, that's a 5 CHF coin. Not 5 raps. Does that make it Ok?
