Our chain-smoker neighbour*, who spends the winter gradually curing herself (not in a good way) in her smoky apartment. Summer comes, and she opens the windows when she has her first fag* of the morning (about 5.30), letting the accumulated stale fumes from her night-time puffing waft straight in through our windows.

I've seen some stuff when visiting offices over there that makes me scream. Like the people who keep a fan heater under their desk to keep them warm when the A/C is too cold for them. Absolute insanity.

The A/C settings in most U.S. offices are outrageous and employees don't have access to the controls. It's like working in a blast chiller. It's a double-waste of money between the electricity to maintain the overly cool temps and the heaters running under the desks. | This user would like to thank 3Wishes for this useful post: | |

Solved the problem in the old-fashioned way, when everybody was out I reached up and hit the main switch, I can reach it, they can´t

Beware though, changing the setting as shown below is likely to cause other sites's behaviour, too! The good thing is, you can always revert to previous settings, provided make sure to remember what they were.
With Firefox:
1) [ALT]+X and chose Settings (2nd from the bottom)
2) Click "Content" (fourth from the left)
3) Under "languages" select your preferred one. If the one you want is missing, shout and do tell what operating system+version (e.g. Windows 8) you use, plus language plus language region (e.g. UK or USA for english)
PS
My interface is in german so I've also mentioned positions, in case my translation differs from FF

Back to my umbrella dilemma, there was one person who in their dash to get a seat, with her Migros bag between her thighs - actually shoved her dripping umbrella's spikey bit inside my shoe. It hurt.
I automatically kicked out, and quite satisfactorily moved her bag into a puddle and got off at the next stop. Where, because of my stress i just had to sit at the bus stop and smoke at least five cigarettes whilst blowing smoke and flipping ash at all and sundry. And mumbling profanities.
Little things amuse little minds, i know.
And, because i am tall, i risk losing eyes everytime i dare to go outside if rain is pouring. Wee old ladies put their heads down and plow through people with the other spikey bits of umbrellas waving around in all directions.
I do not own an umbrella, i was told that rain water makes your hair soft.

I hate umbrella people too, Patsycat. Get a hat. There are those who also think it is good to arm a 4 year old with an umbrella which only serves as a weapon against their school friends. Mine never had them & have not melted in the rain. Which goes with the other rant of people driving their kids 5 minutes along the road because it is raining & the poor darlings might get wet, then parking on the pavement to let them out so people with prams who are walking in the rain have to walk on the road or cycle track to get round the cars.

They're from the US, but were stationed at Cadiz, Spain when we went to visit them.
I only packed skimpy little dresses and outfits, since we went in the middle of the summer and it was scorching hot in Cadiz. I should have known something was up when my sister-in-law came to pick us up wearing a winter sweater and an actual knitted hat and I remember asking myself: why on earth would you even own clothes like that when you live in a place like this?!
Turns out we spent most of our time in their heavily airconditioned house and I was absolutely freezing all the freaking time. And they were all comfy in their thick sweaters. -_-
Worst. Vacation. Ever.

Adverts on the EF.... what's with these adverts that are linked to certain words in peoples threads and even on the sign in sign... the ones in green text that display an advert when you move the mouse pointer over it?
Never seen this on any other forum before, and imo it sucks. I know the rent has to be paid etc... but these adverts that appear in the middle of a page are really irritating.
Is there a way to "turn it off"?

It only happens on the EF, I have not seen it happen on any other forum or internet sites I frequent.
Although I am kind of worried that might be the case, noticed it for the first time yesterday but on my home PC and then again today on my work PC.
Any chance one the mods can confirm it is not an EF official policy / plot?

Try a different browser to the one you're using to confirm this if you like, but in the meantime I would run a malware scan. Just changed from IE11 to Mozilla and the same thing happens.
I'll try the malware scan

People who occupy the area on the bus/tram, reserved for push chairs or wheel chairs. They either stand there, or worst still occupy the dedicated seat, when there is plenty of space elsewhere on the bus.
If the bus is crowded, then I accept why you have to occupy the space, else please go and sit or stand somewhere else!
