| | Permanently Avoid Annoying Door Knockers (useful for everyone)
Hi there, I am trying to put a note on my door, which is in both French and German, and which is perfect ***LEGAL***, to **THREATEN** any annoying strangers to knock my door. The basic message is "if anything, please send me a note in the mailbox. Do not ever knock my door. Or I will call the police"
This is after a stranger knocking my door rudely, and possibly trying to break in, and disturbed my family very much, while I was at work .
Dear forum members, please help draft such a note. Jokes are welcome. Besides that, please give me the words that really works.

What do you mean by "possibly breaking in" ? It seems a binary sort of thing, either they did or they didn't.
Why do you think a threatening sign will help in any way? Anyone genuinely up to no good is going to completely ignore it.
A basic polite "no door sales, canvassing, etc etc" will deter anyone who's deterable. One of those barking dog devices would probably help with the others, but kind of breaks the disturbing the family bit.

Swiss law is derivided from the teachings of Yoda. When it comes to calling the police or going to a lawyer there is do or do not - there is no threaten. | The following 6 users would like to thank dodgyken for this useful post:

When I worked in sales, many moons ago, I did my share of door knocking.
Signs like: "I don't buy at the door" and "No Solicitors" were ignored with relish - in fact it was seen as a buying signal; that the householder was over-compensating for their fear of being a soft touch and a lay-down.
Sometimes I was right - sometimes not ..... but every door was knocked - it would've been unfair not give everyone the same opportunity.

I had this up when we were in a popular area for unsolicited disturbances. If anyone ignored it, they knew they would get a rude reaction. Before that I was polite & couldn't get rid of people for ages (especially endless security salesmen), but putting up the sign to me meant the were forewarned. Worked well on the whole. Just one that decided he was offering advice - to which I gave him some back. | The following 3 users would like to thank for this useful post:

In the UK there is a concept known as removal of implied right of access. If you put a sign up to that effect, anybody trying to sell you anything is in effect trespassing. I don't know if there is a Swiss equivalent to that.

Remember these people are payed a commission per sale and as the end of the month approaches and they're missing their quorum, they can get quite desperate.
I've had Billag rattle my door handle time while forcefully trying to open it and at the same time ringing the bell non stop.
They only calmed down when I turned a video camera on them and asked what the matter was. When I said that by continuing this conversation they were agreeing to this being posted on Youtube they walked away and I've been left in peace since.

Home security is a bit like being a wildebeast. It is not a case of needing to be faster than the lion - but being faster than the other wildebeast.
Your home doesn't need to stop an intruder it just has to appear more difficult to break into than your neighbour's.

I lost my rag at the security salesmen that left hotel hanging things on everyones doors if they didn't answer when they rang to say if we know you're out, so do the burglars. In fact I wasn't out as I had looked thru the peephole & didn't open the door. They came back 2 hours later & rang again. I am usually a polite calm person but they were treated to me shouting at the top of my voice & having their hanger being ripped to shreds & thrown in their faces. It was after that episode I made the sign above.
I don't care if they have a quota. Do not disturb my in my own home or try to sell me anything at the door. If I want something I will go to a shop or look online for it.

In business school, isn't this called creating market demand?
Maybe someone will stop by your house selling a security solution for this? |

if somebody has to cross your garden to knock at yor door (without having been implicity invited ie the postman), is this legally considered trespassing?
