Used disposable diapers ..........?

I have a complaint today. Am wondering if my answer to this is acceptable, for the future?

Had visitors over the weekend, with a baby ....... and this morning I find the waste basket in their bedroom has all their used disposable diapers (crappy? dunno, they were wrapped up tightly)

Don`t parent take these home with them? They live only 2 hours away, in Switzerland.

So, in future, parents with small babies ....... is it okay to ask them to please take their used diapers with them? What do young parents on EF usually do with them when visiting/over-nighting/weekending away?

I only put out rubbish for collection every 2nd week - now I have these "dubious" things waiting for 2 weeks in bike shed.

Re: Used disposable diapers ..........?

It's not ok to leave excrement at somebody elses house.

Generally when we visit friends who also have small child we ask what they do with them - generally that's ok, they have somewhere outside etc.. But visiting people without kids, we'd just take it home or throw it in the street outside.

Do i need to mention that my tongue is in cheek a little.

No, parents don't normally take their waste home with them, I wouldn't expect to or expect my guests to do it.

They should really have asked you where best to put them, rather than leave them in the bin in their room - or maybe you as host should have pre-empted this and offered some solution?

Re: Used disposable diapers ..........?

If the nappies are in sealed bags, I'd just advise them to put them in the main rubbish bag. I wouldn't consider asking them to take them home with them.

Re: Used disposable diapers ..........?

My boys are past the nappy stage now, but when they used nappies, we always brought nappy bags with us. That certainly helped contain the smell, a bit!

Whenever we were visiting someone, we always asked if we could leave the dirty nappies in an outside bin - Not a very good idea leaving dirty nappies in a bin in a bedroom, is it?

But if I were the host, and I have been, many times, I would tell the visitors which bin they can use for the dirty nappies, and would provide nappy bags or any plastic bags. Even when we'be had coffee and play dates, I'd still ask my friends to leave the used nappies behind, even if they only lived 5 mins away. I don't think I could bring myself to ask someone to take their dirty nappy with them.

Next time, it would be nice if you tell your visitors with a baby where they can put the nappies during their stay. If you don't want to wait to get rid of the nappies, then take the bag to the déchetterie (later edit just for Mirfiled- refuse depot/dump/) ....yourself, for goodness sake!

I think it be normal to take one`s waste, produced by one`s children, home. In this age, when everyone pays (or has to store) their waste disposal, why leave stinky waste at other people`s houses? That is arrogant/rude, imo.

Well, at least I can understand why people with babies are not particularly popular house-guests! (Among my age group anyway)

And I now understand why these were been "shunted" to my house, by their younger single siblings and friends!

I shall be shunting them back, in future.

But as a matter of pure interest ........ what would be young EF parents re-action if asked by their host to not leave them behind? Offered a bag for return transport? Just curious.

"Normal" generally means the consensus view, which is pretty clearly against you in this thread.

If I was a guest and the host asked me to take my rubbish with me, I would be very offended!

Come on .. The visitor with the child should show a bit of respect to their host..

Excuse me host, I have a bag of sh1t here, where would you like me to put it? It's not that difficult, the likely answer is simply outside in the bin.. Not just leave it in the bedroom!

Take them to the what?

Our refuse dump takes only glass/paper/carton/tin/metal. Everything else is house collected once a week.
For goodness sake?

I doubt your guests would be offended; you'd just seem a bit eccentric. (but I think they'd know you by then anyway )

You`d leave dirty nappies behind at Gran and Grandad`s house?

It sounds like they weren't really your guests as such, more like you were doing someone a favour?

Very charitable of you - I don't think I'd volunteer to put up a family with nappy-age children unless they were very close friends.

Make your visitors clear that this is easily 0.50 CHF worth of rubbish and they should share the cost.
