Re: Saw Spectre yesterday [potential spoiler alert]

I have grown to like the break. It lets you go to the little boys room after consuming beer with the film (something I love compared to the UK).

It also lets you talk to your friends, about the film, without fear of disturbing others.

And of course time to get anothe beer.

I'm all in favour.

Well that would have an adverse effect on a lot of other entertainment too. The BBC would have no source material for their costume dramas, for example. And the RSC would be completely knackered...

Why ? When Flemming wrote the books in his style they were credible, now somebody else is writting them and you can see.

Another vote for the break in the middle of the movie! Great idea.

How else would you pick up more popcorn?

My misunderstanding - I thought you meant that as soon as Fleming died they should have stopped making the films. Or did you mean it's ok as long as they use source material that he had a hand in? Like Casino Royale (Craig) but not the other three Craig ones.

It's true, Horowitz and the other guys (Sebastian Faulks, Jeffrey Deaver and there's another chap who's rebooted the franchise it seems) are not Fleming, but Anthony Horowitz is a cracking writer (and so prolific I'd suspect he was a syndicate if not for the fact that he's interviewed so much with his flashdrive around his neck) and I think he does a good job of mirroring the original style. There's something brutally misogynistic about Fleming's writing - rather like Bond himself - and perhaps his edges needed redefining for a more contemporary audience? Faulks, too. I've not read the others.

Re: Saw Spectre yesterday [potential spoiler alert]

I saw the movie on Sunday and we left the theater with the "meh" feeling. As we had just watched Skyfall (again) the night before, it was easy to make the comparison, and Spectre just didn't feel like it was a flowing story, but moreso a jumble of settings and characters tossed into a bowl. A lot of settings appeared me more like a "which exotic locales can we shoot" rather than "this will add to the story".

And yesterday on of the in-flight movies I chose was Casino Royale, so I watched it again - that was a good movie!! Easily much more enjoyable than Spectre.

For the record, I'm not a fan of Quantum of Solace, but I am a fan of Daniel Craig as Bond. But as I grew with us Connery as Bond, he will always be my favorite.

Perhaps, but almost none of the movies have had anything to do with the books, other than the title (Thunderball being an exception).

Re: Saw Spectre yesterday [potential spoiler alert]

It has one major shortcoming, 007 doesnt have a dog.

Its like the suits can make up a majorly disjointed plot, shot all over the world, with actors from every (ok not every but you know what i mean) culture represented, but give dog lovers something to love about the film, no!

It would hardly be fair on the dog would it as he is away on trips abroad so often.

Anyway, he's more of a cat man:
