You can challenge the bill, as several people have said.

If you have a written quote it's binding.

Pay that amount then the ball is with them. Cover with a passive-aggressive letter "You made a mistake on the bill but don't worry I paid the right amount per your quote" and leave it to them.

A bit more black and white that.
Mines more a case of - well you didnt tell us not to clean it
you didnt tell us not to charge the battery.

Hand over your bike/car to these fraudsters - you might as well give them your online banking details

Whatever happened to integrity/customer satisfaction ... blah blah
A few years ago I went in for an oil change at the garage who sold us our car. Made the date. Came back a few days later and added tyres mounting. The manager told me..."I see you are already getting a service with us soon. We'll do it for free" How nice I thought. Because a service for me was the oil change . Not what something is officially called here.
Took the car in got the bill a week later for 900 CHF
I was a little pissed. And curious because they always seemed so nice. So instead of sucking it up and paying went and saw him and addressed the bill face to face. Then I discovered what a "service "was in Switzerland and explained had I known that I would never had agreed to it. We both agreed it was a language misunderstanding and he deleted the cost of the service and have me a discount on the price of the oil change.

Since I have taken a forward approach and control my repairs costs. You can do it too. Speaking to us won't change anything other then to offer sympathy.
I find Swiss mechanics and garages very professional and not as you are saying. Sure there are some bad ones. But not anymore then any other country.

Re: Tired of getting ripped off

I lived just over the border in France until recently for the last 6 years and had experience with all (4) Piaggio dealers for maintenance and repairs. I eventually just gave up and went to Geneva and had a much better service (and happily paid a bill that was only 2,5 times more expensive :-)).

Re: Tired of getting ripped off

Did you clearly say " I want you to do the basic service only and nothing else, if something else needs doing you must phone me first" I bet you didn't. You just need to be clear.

Re: Tired of getting ripped off

So start Act 2, where baselesque gets a lesson in standing is own grounds, complaining, and contesting a bill.

Do say it in good Swiss German. Had I seen that they replaced the front tyre on their own "Es hät mr dä Nuggi ussätätscht, und ich hät däme Halungge mal so richtig d Meinig giigeg".

How do you f'ing dare? Off with this stupid rubbish and back on my old beloved front tire. Now, please. And who the heck told you to "clean" my bike? Nobody did. Because nobody but me touches the paintwork. Are you complete nutters? We had a clear agreement what has to be done, how much it costs, and that is what I will pay. Nothing more, nothing less. Finished replacing the tire? No? Should charge you for my wasted time.

But in your place? Do as newtoswitz says. Pay as much as was agreed before hand, and send them a letter that there was a mix up with the bill. Must be clearly from an other costumer.
