Tired of getting ripped off

Had my bike serviced twice here.
First experience - estimated bill was between 300-500 - turned out to be 1000+
No phone call and nothing extra done above a 24K standard service. never went back

2nd experience different place - took it for a new back tyre only - got a written quote this time 135 chf tyre and labour - hmm not bad. They changed both tyres - never asked me but I guess they didnt like the look of it - final bill 550 chf.

Itemised a whole load of things inc cleaning and charging the battery (ffs)
Where else in the world do you pay 130 chf an hour to clean your car/bike

Upon picking the bike up I asked how much it would be. As usual I got the swiss - "what you asking me that for" look. And the I don' want an argument on the forecourt look - just the you'll get the bill in the post around. Ipushed for the cost - 400 chf which turned out to be 550

I just wish they wouldn't lie and take the p*ss at the same time

Re: Tired of getting ripped off

maybe you should have your next quote say "135 for tyre change including labour. all other services and parts to be provided for free"

Since all those years in Basel you still don't go to Germany to have it done?

Re: Tired of getting ripped off

I pay CHF 80/hr for the few things that I don't do myself (mounting tires mainly on the bikes, various stuff on the cars). Hell, I even get some stuff done for free (pulling frozen bearings, minor welding).

You really need to find a better garage.

Bought a car - negotiated a free service after a year - got car serviced - they charged for it - I went back to them and told them to reissue a correct bill - received correct bill - paid correct bill.

It your case it might be worth remembering "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me eighteen times, shame on me"

Re: Tired of getting ripped off

A bit more black and white that.
Mines more a case of - well you didnt tell us not to clean it
you didnt tell us not to charge the battery.

Hand over your bike/car to these fraudsters - you might as well give them your online banking details

Whatever happened to integrity/customer satisfaction ... blah blah

At a garage? They may exist, somewhere, but I've never found one that didn't try this trick - that's why they all have this "bring your vehicle in for a below-cost checkup" offer all the time.

Agree with DK - if you have a written quote, simply pay that amount and send them a letter stating that's what you've done.

Well you need to learn to say "thankyou very much but as i didn't ask you or authorise you tpo do this, i'm not paying you for it, but thankyou anyway"

If you said please service my bike on the otherhand, that is what they did............ and serviced the owner too

Re: Tired of getting ripped off

And anyway that tactic just wouldnt work - they just betreibungs you - and then you really got some shit for the next 6 years - its happened to me. Luckily I managed to persuade the knob at my cost to withdraw the betreibungs and justsettle up.

And yes I could have taken it to court and argued the toss - good luck with that

We had bad surprises with garages a couple of times (in the UK btw- as said above it is the same all over) so we always say when we drop the car off- that if any work needs to be done which is not what had been discussed and priced beforehand, to give us a ring so we can go and discuss this with them- before they go ahead.
