If you don't like it f** off back to where you came from - sometimes followed by a stereotypical reference to a national food or pass time | | | | | Very few people have come to Switzerland with a gun held to their heads. The vast majority of people came based on their own free will, and will have done so having considered the positives and negatives of such a move.
Switzerland is not the land of milk and honey, it is not perfect and it sure as hell doesn't work for people who can't accept its imperfections. There are plenty of situations where I curse places not being open late in the evening or on Saturdays. 3 month notice periods can drive you potty if you forget about them, and late indicating and woeful roundabout indicating can insight Hulkesque levels of rage.
But you know what, if those imperfections really were that bad then we'd pack up, move to another country, join englishforum.xx and bitch about how much better things were in Switzerland.
It is also worth noting that the legends, in general, rather like stupid newbies asking stupid questions at this time of year - the stupid newbies' red blobs combine nicely with the legends' green blobs to lend the forum a festive air.

xxxxxxxxxx is not the land of milk and honey, it is not perfect and it sure as hell doesn't work for people who can't accept its imperfections. There are plenty of situations where I curse xyz...... that goes for any country though, doesn't it?
As a Swiss, I lived in the UK for 39 years. And I loved it, most of it.... and had to adjust to all sorts, poor choice of food (1970!), awful public transport, hugely expensive dirty cold flats (in London and Staffs)... and so much more, But ON BALANCE I loved it- adjusted, made the best of the frustrations. I know many of my compatriots who went, like me, for 6 months to 1 year- and couldn't wait to get back home...but for me, that was the place and I stayed. Might well be back at some point after our early retirement years here.
Personally, I have NO problem with people having a good moan and groan, blowing a fuse with frustration, etc - but at the end of the day, if someone hates everything here, and can't stand it at all, lock, stock and barrel- fine- but do yourself a favour, and go and find somwhere which is better for you, for your sake.
I have to say though, I have very little respect for those who say 'can't stand it and will moan constantly, but the money is much better, so ... I'll continue to do so.

Come on legends, fix this shit! If the peaceful majority of muslims can fix ISIS by (some undefined magic thing posted on Facebook), surely you lot can fix Switzerland the same way! |

I am now quite expert at the BMS as opposed to MSM like I was taught.
BMS is brake manoevre , signal (latter is optional) but strangely gives even more of a sense of satisfaction to tell others what you have just done

If i had the money, i would move to a tropical island paradise. But, i would probably have complaints about that too. It's normal to complain.
But to complain because there are no UK supermarkets, sorry M & S supermarkets, here is a bit silly. Why not write to M & S and propose that they open in Switzerland? Their shop, non food, lasted six months in Geneva. Why? Too expensive. 39 francs for a pack of three pairs of knickers!!!
I live here, i grew up here, i love and hate it here. If i can't find a parsnip in the Migros i go without. Get used to it.

If that is so, then this is very sad. If money is more important to so many, than their happiness and quality of life, then I don't get it- truly I don't. Life is just too short.
Patsy, plenty of parsnips round here - love them.

| | | | | Well a bit of relief at sounding off but weighed against the negativity - probably best not to bother.

Patsy, plenty of parsnips round here - love them. | | | | | I don't think it's the money. It's the lack of the security of the local supermarkets. I have been used to Migros etc. for 45 years and perhaps i would feel a bit out of my comfort zone in a strange environment. I do wander up and down the aisles in Sainsbury's a lot!! I almost felt like a lost child who had lost her mummy - but i found her!!!
But, that doe not mean i would not try and become comfortable with local produce or shops.
If his way of life was shopping in M & S every day, i would suggest Globus as an alternative. For his posh way of life. Some of us just want to eat well for less.
As for restaurants, within a 100m radius of where i live - I have Italian, Mexican, American, Japanese, but have yet to find a Kebab place. Bugger!!
Odile, when i go home for New Year the first thing my mum will cook is parsnips!! Probably to go with the Saucisson Vaudoise!!

M and S is no longer posh - you getting mixed up with Waitrose.
M and S is a value for money store these days - its changed from 45 years ago.
Globus is more like Harrods - Selling twee little packets wrapped up in ribbons of silly things at vastly over inflated prices.
Good to see Fortnum and Masons coming 11th in a minced pies survey 13.95 for 6 of those english quids while Aldi came 2nd at 1.25 for 6

Ahhhh fusion food- papet Vaudois with parnsips- perfect. Make my fusion trifle for your family- cake soaked with Kirsch, topped with black tinned cherries, thicked with a little cornflour, add sugar and Kirsch- pour onto cake slices- add custard, add cream topping- shavings or dark Swiss chocolate (70% cocoa) and decorate with a few black cherries (dry in kitchen paper first to stop 'running'). Fab- and terribly fashionable in Surrey these days, I hear.

Why did you sign such a contract when it was plain to see in paragraph 37 subsection 4 clause k that they had you by the bal*s
On the other hand it will get read and you will get a response as none of them have anything else better to do and above all have an opinion on absolutely everything | | | | | Answer 5
Didn't you search the site? You must be very stupid not to use the search function. Obviously, we already discussed that in 2007 and even though the information is no longer relevant, you should have a. found it and b. posted your stupid question there.
I was hopeful a week or so ago when certain Mr. Dodgy Ken was banned, but then he came back.
I find that Facebook is a much friendlier group of people, and very helpful. Search for expats in Basel, Switzerland - lots of great answers!
