The OP hasn't apologized for joining this forum in the same way Hitler didn't apologize for annexing Austria. In my opinion they are of equal value
How can an Austrian annex Austria? It was just a homecoming

Regarding groans: There are posts where arguments are obviously of no value and groans are a quick way to deal with it. I think if someone gives ten times or more thanks then groans it's entirely reasonable

OMG - whole new level of nastiness.
One has to apologize for joining the forum now ?

I'm back off to the safe zone. With my knickers on, thank you, not in a twist like some ...

As an equal opportunity groaner, I give fair warning that I intend to groan every post on this thread. Thank you for your attention.*

*only on the first page. I got bored after that
And my wife will think I screwed something up on the EF again.

Mr Burner is that you?

You do get bored fast, loads of people are impatient, including OP.

Well, for the wellbeing of our fabulous community, lemi remind the rules and issue a group hu...no, group warning.

Serial groan fest, targeting somebody with groans, tracking across the forum with particularly negative attention is not permitted and as before, gets treated with longer or shorter EF holidays. In the name of...I can't remember. Amen.

Where were we..Aleydis, your post was funny. Knickers? Is that panties? I have to do spring shopping. Intimissimi threw all these billboards around here.

Yes, but that word: panties. Somehow it looks worse in italics.

Pants. But then that becomes a trouser dilemma. Possibly.

No, no, nothing so drastic. A slap on the wrists, I was thinking more along those lines. And maybe to stop making it so unidirectional?

How does anyone expect people to feel safe about posting around here if the mods stand by and let some albeit 'useful' person make someone else their personal target? A bit lame ...

Yes, where is Burner ? Did I miss something ?
I'm sorry if I wasn't there to stick up for him ...

In my darkest hour on EF, he was the only gallant gentleman who beat back the bullies.

(Which of course makes him my boyfriend.)

Hi.

It's the internet. Here is as safe a place as any - it's what you make it I guess. There's great stuff on here, and not so great stuff on here. But it's a discussion forum. Opinions are going to collide, personalities will clash and grate just as they will also click and gell. You (a non-directional, non-specific, plural second-person noun) need to sort the wheat from the chaff, helpful from the jokey, kind from the other... and live and let live.

And it's hard, remember, because we are all writing, not speaking. No eye contact, no facial expression, cross-cultural communication: it's going to be a bit of a minefield at times but it becomes a matter of tone. And we're all responsible for our own tone - and we're responsible if/when we put the collective back up.

This forum is bloody good to a lot of people - lots of support (an awful lot of it "behind the scenes" in PMs etc) and advice as well as a lot of messing around because people can. Because there's no malice in it, until rudeness happens. And then the tide turns. Until it turns again. And again. Sides won't be taken. Or they will - but like the avatars and the names people select for themselves, we have no idea whether they are true reflections of the individual or not. And it shouldn't matter because unless we choose to "give" our real selves, we may never know. And we don't necessarily choose to because it's a forum. And it's a far smaller place than we think.

It's the internet. It's as "real life" as we choose to make it.
Decency matters if you want decency in return, be it on here, on the tram, at the kitchen table with your kid or in the workplace. Do unto others etc.

My two penn'orth. Now. Drinkies.

Rufus.
