Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

Living in an apartment house has made me a hot target for distributors of junk mail. I am amazed by the amount my postbox accumulates in just a few days.

I have resorted to pasting a "Keine Werbung" sign on it, but it will dissolve as soon as we have some swiss rain. Does anyone know where to buy a nice plastic or metal sign about 12x2cm without getting one specially made ?

Thanx
dave

Re: Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

I understand the Post is now/soon obliged NOT to send Direct Marketing Mail (Junk, Spam, you name it) and has recently initiated a campaign to promote people sticking smily-faced Post Office approved stickers saying "Werbung? OK!" ('Advertising? OK!') on your mail box. They're even offering free postage stamps if you succumb to this delight.

The reaction 'on the street' has been to Sticker Bomb all postboxes with the aforementioned "Werbung? OK!" stickers. Ha ha, what's good for the goose...

And you can consider that customer loyalty card as well. They know what you buy, how much you spend et cet. et cet. One strategy, rather pointless but amusing none-the-less, is to collect it all up and return it to the Post Office next time you visit. Mark it 'Unsolicited Mail: Return To Sender'. Won't do much good but feels satisfying

Re: Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

We just recently put a sticker up on our mailbox "Keine Werbung bitte" but the postman and/or other newspaper delivery person does not care about the sign. We are currently trying to find out now, what we shall do.
I will certaintly go and speak to the guys at the post office as some of the junk mail gets delivered by the postman. But I am unsure of what we have to do with the other news paper stuff that gets delivered by delivery "boy".
I was planning on writing to the news paper and ask them to please have their delivery "boy" read the signs on the mailbox properly - but that would be very time consuming. So I am not quite sure what we can do.

Also someone seems to sell our address (we are not in the phone book). When we got married my last name changed to my husbands family name. I have been gone from Switzerland for over 4 years and since we got back mail started arriving again with my MAIDEN name. So someone (either Gemeinde, Bank or Insurance as they all knew me from before) somewhere must sell/handout my data. Anyhow, it's just annoying

Re: Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

Regarding free 'news' papers, call the office and tell them "No more". They're bound to honour your request (after the next publication). Minor pain for you, major pain for them to administer, ha!

It would be interesting to know where they get the name and addresses from: please post if you know

Save your money it won't make a difference. All the letter boxes in my area have those signs pre-installed but people just ignore it.

It seems to have worked. I can now take great pleasure in finding just bills in my Briefkasten.

Maybe your home made "Keine Werbung" makes the message more personal and makes them think twice It will be interesting to see what happens when you get a proper one Maybe you should draw a skull on it to bring that personal touch back

Re: Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

My mailbox has "Bitte keine Werbung" as part of the mailbox after our flats were renovated but I am thinking of changing it to "Bitte keine Werbung und weniger Rechnung" (Sorry Mark)

Re: Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

dudes, i worked for a direct marketing company in the past (just as a designer, don't blame me! ;-) and as much as i know, the delivery persons are INSTRUCTED to ignore all "keine werbung" discouraging stickers. if you aim for some success, just make vigilance turns with fellows anti-spam dudes and try to catch the spamer(s) and let him know that the junk mail really pisses you off. me, i'm too lazy to do that. i've just got myself a paper stacker and 100 mts of cord and decided to learn new knots every two weeks ;-) my paper stacks are so tight now, that i could use them as bricks! trying to look possitive at it.

Re: Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

Okay a week ago, we wrote to a free regional news paper to please inform their "paper boy" to NOT deliver any more news paper to our house - even though 2 stickers should give it away.

We set the emails so that we would get read receipts ... well, one woman received it, but erased it ... Today we got the above mentioned news paper again!

I am ANNOYED!!! We have even put up an A4-paper reading "Bitte KEINE Werbung" in such a big font size, that you could see it from the other side of the road sitting in a car AND if anyone wanted to deliver anything to our letter box they actually had to lift the sign up to get to the slot in order to drop anything in the letterbox. Did it help?... No.

We wrote the news paper editorial staff again today (again asking for a read receipt ... and as I am so ANNOYED actually adding the previous read receipt which stated that my email was deleted without being read). Well, lets give them the doubt of the day, that this woman accidentally erased my email and that next week we shall be more successful.

If anyone knows what else we can do, if they would ignore our request again, then any suggestions are very welcome.

I've got a keine werbung sticker on my postbox which stops the leaflets etc but it has never stopped any of the free newspapers. I suspect they don't see them as junk mail. Although it's darned annoying about them ignoring(and deleting) your email.

fuggedaboudit. that's my suggestion. i'm sick of the pseudo police-women pasting parking fines on my windshield and the horrible swiss traffic system. but sending reclamations to whoever is responsable of this, won't help a bit, since is designed to collect money not improve order. the direct marketing advertising channel is the same. is not intended to inform you, but to collect money from companies. so, you can whine as much as you want. but as long no regulations are available, you are unable to solve this problem. just accept it! and learn how to pack the s..t tighter!

Hey, we have a neighbour like that! Someone keeps on posting copy of a page from the official "traffic fines" manual in our letter box for parking on the street - the only problem: we never park on the streets. But they do not have the guts to write down their names on it but rather do it anonymous.

Well, it just gives us a bit more paper to pack/bind. I would like to thank Uncle Max for the website - very useful

Re: Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

I started searching on the internet, after writing to the news paper editor a third time asking not to have the news paper delivered anymore and being ignored (meaning still getting free papers delivered).
I wanted to find out what I can do (without being rude or worst - not keeping the law or something) but what I can do to protect myself against unwanted junk mail. I found this website (sorry only in German): <http://www.konsumentenschutz.ch/cont...kleberset.html>. Basically it states that marketing specialist and advertising specialists found ways to by-pass the sticker "Bitte keine Werbung". They say that a news paper is no "Werbung" and thus the sticker does not count for them. Thus the SKS (something like consumer protection association) have created a new sticker which is also for news paper.
I will order the set and try to figure out what the leaflet states etc, what it is all about the Refusé-stickers (interessting to me as I all the sudden get junk mail addressed to my maiden name again) and most importantly what they mean by the sticker "Adresse nur für diesen Zweck verwenden" (only use address for this purpose) which sounds to me like something to ask them not to resell your address.

Re: Junk Mail - "Keine Webung" signs

OK, so now I need to extend my home made letterbox sign to encompass all of the possibilities: no advertising; no free newspapers; only to be used for authorised purposes; no mail with which my address was illicitely obtained etc etc

I'm going to need a wider letterbox....
