...meanwhile in switzerland.... | | | | | That's not really Switzerland. The posters aren't in German.

...meanwhile in switzerland.... | | | | | It is good you are reminding this ridiculous stuff. People here were very adamant about the campaign being heard.
The funny thing is, if you check the thread about the votes in that campaign, there is a link that directs to the government not implementing the result of the vote and the quotas, anyways.

Careful there. I've heard Russia isn't very welcoming towards foreigners/ homosexuals nor towards refugees.

So no, this is not only in Switzerland. What were you trying to say with this?

| | Re: 9 months in Switzerland - a honest report. | Quote: | | | | | So... you think the Swiss can spot my being Canadian when I go to a club and on the basis of that react more positively? I think not. Until I open my mouth and tell them they haven't a clue, and even when I do tell them they often seem to think that this means that I am either American, or a member of a vast Hockey playing Bear Grylls tribe.
Not being Russian I wouldn't know. Not being Canadian, neither would you.
There is indeed both prejudice and zenophobia here in Switzerland, as there is in most places. Although the details are different, the main thing is how one reacts against, or with it, or at all. | | | | | Really? I feel like a rockstar here with all the native theme in school, clubs, parties, etc... (totally inappropriate back home but here it passes so I just go with it)
No one know where I'm from by my looks or accent. They play the guessing game and come up with Spanish, Italian, mostly Brazil (that's a big winner) and last week I was asked if I came from the Maghreb.
Always polite, always positively curious and respectful.

C'mon guys, you can't possibly believe that OP's interactions with the locals are only in clubs etc.

| | Re: 9 months in Switzerland - a honest report. | Quote: | | | | | If you are only doing a job because of the experience and not because you HAVE to do it, things are much easier. But now we live at times when everyone thinks they are too good for the job they are doing, including those that are highly educated. | | | | | My OH had to work as a pizza delivery guy because it was the only job he could get at the time, even with a degree in IT. It did help immensely that he was in New Zealand at the time and it was a beach front pizzeria that he was delivering for.
When I was a manager, I had to know every job that was expected of my team. When we were short staffed, thanks to a ridiculously inept GM, I'd take over each team member's role whilst that had their meal breaks, and because I was a decent manager, they always saved my favourite part of their role to do during this time. I spent many happy hours stacking the 1lt Volvic bottles in the fridges (reminded me of playing Tetris ), and god help anyone who walked over my freshly mopped floors! A manager will never have the respect of their team if there's any part of their roles that the manager turns their nose up at.
As for customers... If one of my team was rude to a customer, they were taken aside and talked to in private. If a customer was rude to one of my team, I'd take over the sale / situation personally if possible. 9 times out of 10, customers just need to hear a 'different voice' to modify their behaviour.

All the posters heavily criticizing Switzerland and their way of life or those who are trying to agree or justify with the original poster, with various "one up-manship" events that may or may not have happened i wonder how many have taken the time to learn the language, understand the customs and tried to integrate themselves into the Swiss system ?

I'm not that blind.
