Swiss mentality is one of the most horrible mentalities I've ever encountered. It's the biggest " you" that I've recieved from any nation in a such systematical and cosistent way that I can easily call it a rule. At first I was shocked about it, then I tried to respect it as I strive to respect other cultures and more I tried to be tolerant, more shit was thrown at me. Finally I gave up. Now I hate swiss mentality. It's like a damn virus and there is no andidote for it. I think this is a proof that god doesn't exist.
And when you mention a word swiss, this is what comes to my mind: An ultra narrow-minded, rude, superficial, arrogant, judgemental, snobby, racistic, fake and boring as hell piece of shit without any soul, empathy or character. It's like cherry picking all the bad traits from many cultures and programming them into a robot who stares at you 24/7 and occasionally spits that damn 'grüezzi' while having a metal rod stuck up in his ass . I swear, everytime I encounter canadian (or just anybody else) it's like finding a gold brick in a big pile of shit called Switzerland.

I agree. People rant. And then can't show a bit of sympathy with other ranters. Since those happen to rant about something else in that particular moment.

I don't think anyone has a problem with people having a legitimate rant against something specific - but a blanket rant against the "Swiss" and all things "Swiss" is just racist/xenophobic.
There are 3 sides to every story - person A's, person B's and the truth.

Just because he has a strong dislike for anything Swiss, I wouldn't necessarily describe him as racist/xenophobic; it's just the way he currently feels based on his experiences and what he's accustomed to in his previous country.

It's all part of culture shock, growing and learning and we can certainly agree, Switzerland is not for everybody. | | | | | Emigrating is not for everyone, and if Switzerland is their first port of call, then that's the country that's going to get it in the neck.
What I don't understand is why this thread keeps being revived by 'new members' who have incredibly good knowledge of the search function, offer nothing of themselves in their profile, never allude to what it is about them that makes people 'cringe away', rarely offer their experience living in several other countries as a comparison, etc...
So my question is, why are new members who don't like living in Switzerland so much better at using the search function that new members who are asking about the cost of living? | This user would like to thank Blueangel for this useful post: | |

I have to agree with the point someone just wrote; that the degree of unhappiness here, depends on where you come from.
The new EF members living here are experiencing the migration shock, the new EF members who are not here yet are asking about the cost of living. Both are guilty of not searching, most don't seem to ever find the Google button.
I usually cannot be bothered to answer questions for which a simple search would provide the answer, I have been here too long and I fight against writing nasty replies.
What is the answer: what advice can we give unhappy people?
I think too many people are lonely here, and often team up with other lame ducks, and then they spend their time bemoaning their situation. These people need to understand that nobody is going to welcome them. This isn't the US where everyone wishes you a nice day, this isn't the UK where everyone is apparently friendly. This is German culture where "Friendship has to be earned" where you will be accepted once you have displayed sufficient good character. Here this can be accomplished by joining a club, showing an interest in other people's thoughts and actions, speaking to your neighbours etc etc.
If you look at the EF social events calendar, it is very very bare. Nothing is happening during the Christmas season except in Geneva & Baden. Anyone can organise a meet up in a bar or a restaurant, so why can't "ex-pats" do it instead of complaining?

I don't live in the Switzerland that those ranting do. And I live in the middle of (so i've been told) the ugliest city here.
I have never noticed rudeness or staring in the way some people have. I am always (usually) polite to shop workers, the postman, the lady in the lift etc.
I have a good group of friends from all walks of life and nationalities.
Maybe that's my fault. Maybe not. Maybe i've become Swiss!! Definetely.
The only people that can cringe at me are my family and close friends. And i can assure you they do that regularly!! Jeez, i cringe at myself, daily!!
