if not the friendliest,
I don't think I would agree with that, the Swiss are generally rather reserved which hardly could ever translate into the 'friendliest', however much you are a fan of CH that would be fanboy speak at best.

I'll just step in here and say: every problem you've raised is because you're ugly. Nothing to do with the Swiss, it's just the fact that you look like a cross between a baboon's backside and a warthog.

For us beautiful people, Switzerland has never been a problem. Tough luck, pal. I'd say I feel for ya, but... I don't.
OK, I'm ugly. But strangely, my ugliness has never been a problem anywhere in Europe, except in Switzerland...

No N in the OP's user name...... being dyslexic amazed I noticed that
I presumed it was a Russian, or possibly Finnish, name, or a contraction thereof.

Probably Russian, as the OP says. Since he is honest and forthright I would be inclined to believe him.

Possibly a misspelling of John, which originally meant "Yahweh is gracious", which doesn't quite seem to be included in the gospel according to Johlta.

Re: 9 months in Switzerland - a honest report.

So, on balance - will you be going or staying? Just wondering.

And how long did you stay in Romandie and where (Geneva?) ... to decide that people there, etc, are just as cold and snobby than in ZH?

I object to that
The OP only personally referred to Zürich in the "party" sense, which from second-hand knowledge I can totally agree to ;-).

I find it weirdly disconcerting that it's almost an involuntary reflex to blurt out a greeting if you are passing someone on a hike or walking into a doctor's waiting room which gives an impression of "friendliness" but further conversation doesn't seem to get anywhere and the shutters come down.

Having said that, I've had occasions where someone has struck up a conversation spontaneously to the point where my British shutters came down with a frozen smile and an internal "Ermahgerd, how am I going to politely escape this!?"

The nutter on the bus...

No N in any part of the OP's user name, thats supposed to be an anagram of John Travolta.

Really... how do you call the letter between the 2nd "o" and the final "t" then? Is this a special letter that only lysdexics use?

'Swiss romande are more open to foreigners' is just a last straw bullchit that swiss use, in attempt to represent CH in a better light. In reality, romandes are just less worse swiss and nothing else. Somebody said that they're different. Yes they are different. When you have bovel movement after 3 weeks of being constipated or after eating chäschëuchli (wtf?), the shit is different too, but still, it's the shit.
The difference between german and french speaking swiss is, that german speaking swiss f#cks you in your face, while french speaking swiss fu#ks you behind your back.Swiss is swiss, don't get fooled. The only parts of switzerland where I have experienced locals acting like humans and showing some respect towards foreigners, are Munich, Milano and Strasbourg.

And yes, I've spent some time in Geneva (by excident) and I had to return home quickly because I run out of antidepressants.

You should try a day trip to either Gothenburg or Malmo. Quite different from the rest of Switzerland.

You are funny. I think you should get on stage, I wonder who would find you the most entertaining..probably both outsiders and insiders.

They will ask me to leave the super quiet and serious lib study section, hahahahah.
