Mr.Maquiavelo has made some interesting contributions
and the winner of the most ridicule company award in Switzerland is ...

Forget about Trump and the end of the world. COOP is now charging 5ct for each plastic bag! isn't this the most ridiculous thing ever?? now is on! I'm off for shopping in Germany!

Think about it, every time you go to COOP you will be 5ct x N poorer for the rest of your life. Is like it is not enough for them to overcharge insanely for the food prices, they want to squeeze every penny.

Can't you bring your own bags with you and reuse them like everyone else does?

Re: and the winner of the most ridicule company award in Switzerland is ...

English supermarkets and other stores have had to charge since October 2015. It was the last UK country to do so. Many other countries also charge.

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...es-a-5p-charge

As Tom1234 says, take your own. I always take my own shopping bags when doing the weekly food shop and also carry one of those little bag-in-a-pouch bags in my handbag in case I need it for impromptu purchases at other times.

Now you got me going, mate!
The reason they do that is to stop you from using these stupid plastic bags. Have you ever bothered to inform yourself what all this plastic does to the enviroment, to the sea, to the birds and anmimals living in/at/on sea?! Particals of that frigging plastic is already to be found in the water - not much longer and you'll drink it.

I didn't think this 5 Rappen thing would achieve much but with great delight I have seen people muttering and swearing (like you) - yet be too stingy (thank God) to pay the 5 Rappen.

Go shopping to Germany - in addition you can pollute some air on the way - move there rather!

German

And watch those .... you'll probably need to watch all of them to get even the faintest clue:

In addition I would not be surprised if you were one of those with many children, hoping for lots of grand-children and at the same time not caring if the little buggers will even have a chance to live.

Yep, I'm angry. Even though I don't even know why I care - the world will be okay long enough for me to die a natural death.

Migros has been doing this for a while, so it's hardly news that Coop will start. I don't see the issue. If you want the plastic sack, pay the 5 Rappen. If you don't want to pay, bring your own bag. I've forgotten my bag a few times, and having to pay a few Rappen is a reminder to keep it handy!

I assumed the 5 cent charge was for the small clear bags, for self service fruit and vegetables, are these still free of charge then?

Yes, they are. They didn't find a solution for that yet, I guess. If I buy only one Pepper or Aubergine I stick the price stright on them.

Ditto that. And if there's a couple different items, i 'll use one bag - weigh them separately and put all the stickers on the same bag. Bags then get used to line the little bathroom waste bin.

Yep, I think that's what I will do to in future. Even the cashier said that would be okay.

Even in a place like South Africa, plastic bags have been sold for about 15 years. makes total sense. Get a few canvas bag, keep them in the car or take them from home when you go shopping.

At the self-service checkouts, there were free thin plastic bags. Now they're not free. And I've just realised I forgot to scan the bag the last time I was there... I bet I won't be the only one!

I vaguely remember there being a change in the law requiring them to do this - or maybe I'm thinking of England.

Re: and the winner of the most ridicule company award in Switzerland is ...

I think our local Migros would take the prize for this.

My husband popped into our local store last November a couple of days after they introduced the 5cts bag charge. He wasn't buying mush so didn't take a bag in with him from the car.
He bought a couple of lemons and a couple of kiwis which he put together in the same thin plastic bag at the fruit section. He then got a loaf of bread and took them to pay at the self scan checkout.
He paid for the stuff using a gift card ( the self scan checkouts at Migros don't take cash) and as he picked up the bag of fruit it split and the fruit fell to the floor. He picked it up and put it in one of the bags at the checkout not dealing that they had recently started charging for them. The lady in charge of the area came over and insisted he had to pay for it and pointed at the notice. He got a coin out of his pocket to pay for it but she insisted on putting it through the till and then making him pay using his bank card as the gift card doesn't work for amounts as low as 5cts.
The worst thing thing that my idiot husband was stupid enough to just do it. I would either have put the bag back and stuffed the fruit in my pockets/handbag or insisted on paying at a regular checkout or gone back and got another fruit bag. There is no way I would have made a 5cts purchase on my bank card.

I don't disagree with the bag charge at all and we always take our own bags shopping with us plus I have a folded one in my handbag but I thought that the way the checkout lady behaved on that day was just plain ridiculous.
