Re: Coop Albisrieden Keeps Running Out Of Crunchy Peanut Butter!

Maybe it's time to change supermarkets? Come to the dark side... we have peanut butter!

At least near me, the large Migros shopping center carries both creamy and crunchy. I've seen neither in the smaller Migros.

I'm sitting here eating toast with SMOOTH peanut butter because for the third week in succession my local Coop has stopped stocking the crunchy variety. It was either buy smooth or die of starvation.

Honestly, what use to man or beast is smooth peanut butter?!?!

I'll have to go and shop in the Migros across the road in case they have it, or worse still go to Letzipark which is at least a 10 minute bike ride.

I am quite sure that supermarkets in the UK and the Netherlands - other countries I have lived in - would stock crunchy peanut butter in all situations even tidal waves and earthquakes. Though I am sure Odile will have a valuable anecdote about UK supermarkets in the 1970s only ever stocking lard and coal.

I'm now going to go to work in a bad mood. On a Friday!

Cheers,
Nick
So it's your fault!

When they run out, you should just boycott them, not encourage them to stock smooth peanut butter by buying it!

I've been in a peanut butter fasting mode ever since I run out my JIF jar. Nothing just compares....

I live in Albisrieden too. Maybe I shouldn't have bought 50 tubs of crunchy peanut butter at the Coop last week :-)

Globus has a nice crunchy peanut butter, but I generally just get a 1kg tub from a sports nutrition shop..healthy and much cheaper

Re: Coop Albisrieden Keeps Running Out Of Crunchy Peanut Butter!

Peanut butter is unlikely to go off even if kept for years past any sell-by date. Why you just buy one jar at a time is beyond me. Have you turned into a Swiss housewife, buying the smallest size of everything possible so that you have something to do in a few hours' time (shopping in Coop again)?

There's no room in a typical Zurich flat for any more than two jars of peanut butter.

Peanut butter, jam, nutella, honey, marmite and mustard can only be stored/used in rotation. Sometimes you get lucky and your peanut butter and jam sandwich is just right - other times you just have to live with nutella and mustard.

You're doing it all wrong. You must make sure your Coop knows how much crunchy peanutbutter you consume in a week. It's what I did with my Coop about tobacco ..... never a problem again.

Sounds like an ideal excuse to go to a Konditorei and get the full monty instead
I did the full monty in my local bakery shop. I'm barred for life now.

Serves you right for living in Albisrieden and still using that username.
I am called nickatalbisrieden on another forum that rhymes with "EnglishWalk". Should I try complaining there instead?

Re: Coop Albisrieden Keeps Running Out Of Crunchy Peanut Butter!

And remind me to open a thread next Friday about the inability of Zurich retailers to realise that EF member names chosen when they lived in one place 7 years ago that happen to contain a geographical name have nothing to do with the user's current place of residence.

I'll have to think up a location-neutral EF username now. Like nickusedtoliveinbaselbutnotanymore. What a pain that will be to type on each login!

Cheers,

Problem solved. Migros had it. So what does one do with leftover smooth peanut butter?

Re: Coop Albisrieden Keeps Running Out Of Crunchy Peanut Butter!

Coop has now stopped selling the fairly decent 'Gina' brand peanut butters (both smooth and crunchy) altogether. That is a pity.
They now only carry do a 'Karma' vegan version instead. I have only just found out the bad news last week so haven't tried the Karma crunchy version, but quite often these are the ones that have the oil sitting on top of the hardened peanut butter when you first open the jar.
http://www.coopathome.ch/en/supermar...tter/p/6279540

Migros produce a similar texture own brand 'Classic' crunchy version but it is not as sweet and so in my opinion not authentic.
