Was that supposed to hurt anyone here?

I am not sure but if this is what you choose to write in your first message here.....lol.

Edit. It was you third message...anyway, things escalated quickly from looking for a friend.
LOL, you're right. Guess when he didn't find a friend within a month he tried negative advertising. Works with some stuff, not with people though.
Somebody show the poor bloke to the threads where expats claim it takes at least 30 years to make friends in Switzerland.

Swiss people always think they are better than the others and so proud ad they fix their eyes on simple things, which makes them stupid in my eyes.
It's the simple things that matter most, so not stupid at all.

Anyway, you definitely need to find some Yin to go with that Yang!

Sounds like half of the complaints and bashings are written by yang guys who have no inhibitions.. I used to find them amusing but they are tiresome now.

I always quite liked the weather in CH. they seemed to actually have seasons.

But I'm from Scotland so yeh..

I was just about to say: "crap weather? You've never lived in Scotland, son, makes Switzerland feel like Tropical", but you beat me to it!
I love Swiss weather (albeit a bit too hot for my fair skin from time to time!)

I love Swiss German. You can make a lot more mistakes in it than in high German.

Re: I'm almost done with Switzerland

...and as there are so many different Swiss German dialects and no-one knows them all, if folk look puzzled or try to correct you, you can always say that this is the way you heard it in a village in the Muotatal, or in Lein, or way up above Fankhaus. If they seem very knowledgeable on the subject, choose a placename which occurs all over the country. Oberwil is one and Eschenbach/Oeschenbach which sounds more interesting, gives you three chances to be 'right'.

I came to Switzerland in 2009 for work, hoping to have found a great place to live and work. 8 years down the line I come to a point where I hate this country as much as I used to love it in the first place.
- weather is crap most of the time
Its an alpine country, with Alpine weather. Were you expecting hot sunny beaches?
- there are no activities for foreigners outside of foreigners meet ups
Not true. Im a foreigner, and i married a local. Thats one activitiy many could do.
- it is almost unaffordable to own a house
So dont own a house. Most people dont, and it seems to work fine. or buy one somewhere else, if your desperate to own a spit of land with a building on it.
- Swiss people make us feel unwelcome
Swiss people make everyone feel unwelcome. Even each other. Get used to it.
- I cannot stand Swiss German, which is nothing but a tool to exclude foreigners
Kind of like every language, to those that dont speak it.
- the simplest things are overly complex
Duh...this is switzerland.

Maybe living in one place too long would always get boring, especially a foreign country. I heard some time, people living here for more than 8 years, feed up.
I bleme the chocolate, cheese and bread myself.

Thanks goodness the process slows down after the first ten years. I've been here for over forty...

As a foreigner, everything is more difficult.

In almost all the other countries, people are not speaking dialect in working place. Only in Switzerland, Swiss German is everywhere that make many foreigners' life more difficult.
You've never been to Newcastle/Alabama have you. Not a word of Oxford English spoken anywhere - the racist barstewards.

Re: I'm almost done with Switzerland

Swiss german is not a dialect, its a language itself. (I know there have been long discussions on this here). Switching from swiss german to standart german is not the same as loosing my solothurner dialect when speaking to someone from zürich.

Depending on where you working u can always ask people to speak german or english. I am sure they will switch to german or english for the first months.

Long or short discussions from renowned language experts on EF notwithstanding Swiss German is a Alemannic dialect, full stop.

You might discuss the existence of, say, atoms all you want, doesn't change the fact they exist. Just use google and wikipedia.
