Driving licence

So, it's been 6 weeks since I give up my driving licence to become Swiss one. And on Wednesday I'm off to my two weeks holiday with my car. Or maybe NOT because I can't exit CH without any driving licence. International is not valid without my one.
At Strassenverkehrsamt they are only saying that it is still by Police for check up.
Croatian embassy can't help me.
German embassy said - do not drive on German roads with only international licence.
And I'm like -

I have been driving all over the place for the last 50 plus year and never been asked for a driving license, except to hire car...

Yeah, but when you're crossing more then one border and you are leaving Schengen and there is new thing called "let's check everyone crossing Schengen border between two EU lands in details", there is too much of a risk....

Re: Driving licence

It is weird that it's taking this long, maybe because it's a croatian license I don't know.
If it's still valid until after vacations and it's at the office you could tell them you need it and will resubmit after vacations, they should give it back.
But I don't know if that's possible when the police has it (why do they have it anyway?).

Go ahead on your holiday. Take the photocopy of your old driving licence that you diligently made before surrendering it, just in case you need to show something in the slim chance you get stopped.

Re: Driving licence

Yeah, it is at police and that's why I can't get it back to resubmit later on.

Re: Driving licence

A swiss driver's license is valid in the EU, and they should be able to issue you one on the spot if you explain your situation.

Re: Driving licence

An international driving license, is not really a license, but a translation on the native license. Both have to be presented if requested, and the international license serves to translate what the native (or foreign in this case) allows and prescribes. eg: Size of car, truck, motorcycle, etc, driving glasses required, or any other special requirement, etc....
