a pair of TODS shoes broken after 1 month!

I am really upset
I bought a pair of tods last month and they are already broken. I brought back to the shop to complain and they told me.. well its normal, we have got a lot of complaints and we suggest you bring them to a shop to repair them.I was really disappointed and what I could negotiate with the seller is to split the cost for the repair.
I spent 400 SFR for the shoes and after one month I have to pay more than 60 to repair.
I would like to write the company to tell them that they should not produce such shoes if they get destroyed after few weeks. but noone will answer of course.. so just get frustrated

well from now on I will never buy this shoes

Well oddly enough I thanked you for this post, because I have always thought maybe I need a pair of tods. Now I know I don't. In fact, I now feel I don't need any 400 CHF pair of shoes. That is so great.

pay with credit card and complain to the CC company. It's often easier. I often shop with CC for this very reason...

Because the way merchant accounts work, the CC company can authoritatively deny the merchant payment if it deems appropriate. This is why the safest way to pay online is with a low limit credit card. In case a fraudulent charge is made, it is often enough to quickly call the CC company and they will undo the transaction in question.

To be completely precise, the merchant doesn't get your money until a certain period (normally 30 days, but can be 2 or even 3 months as well) is elapsed. Up to that point your CC company can very easily reverse transactions, simply because they have the funds on their own accounts.

Sorry, I am not sure where you get this information from.

I believe the CC company can stop payment for seller fraud or non-delivery of goods or even delivery of broken goods.

I am unconvinced they can play "consumer rights agency" when something broke especially after you have used it for 1 month.

Paying a big amount for something and then finding it breaking after a short time, hurts a lot. But going down the lane to "get back" at a big nameless company (esp if you said you already tried) will only prolong this pain.

Seriously the CC advice, must be a "joke"?

Move on, afterall all of us now know to avoid TODS.

Thanks for the information.

what shop was this? I barely can type from the shock.... was this a Tods shop or one dealear/corner?

I have several tods, and this is unheard of.... A couple of those pairs had _problems_ and all i had to do was to get back to the shop and show them. On both occasions they fixed it or returned my money (and apologized for the inconvinience). Tods used to be very proud of their quality and customer service...

By the way, if they have a lot of complaints, it means that the product is probably defective or has a production problem. One customer might be silly, but not a bunch of them

I would seriously escalate the complaint to their corporate customer service. I really find hard to believe that a brand that markets their products they way they do just leaves it on "we had several complaints, sorry miss customer, such is life......."

I don't think that's right - I think what Lob means is that your contract is with the CC company - technically you bought (or are buying) the shoes from them, and they are buying them from Tods. It's a sort of insurance you get.

But anyway, just go back to the shop and tell it like it is - they broke after 1 month, they are not fit for the purpose.

Re: a pair of TODS shoes broken after 1 month!

WOW, that's outrageous! I don't blame you for being upset and disgusted! Which Tod's boutique?

I also own several pairs of Tod's, and never had a problem with any of them. I lost the shoulder strap for my Lady Di Shopper, and even though this bag is discontinued, they found a replacement strap and provided it free of charge. Granted, this was the Tod's boutique in NYC. They would go out of business if they didn't provide good customer service.

The proper thing for them to do would be to either replace or pay for the repair of the shoes for you or offer a refund.

Have you tried filling out their online customer service contact form:

http://www.tods.com/My-Tods/Contact,mkt,en-EU.html

Best of luck!

Not the first time I heard of disappointed Tods buyers with respect both quality and customer service.

They lasted a month? You were lucky. I've had carpet slippers which had more substance than the Tod's I got talked into buying.

Ok that is not correct.. The CC merely acts as a means of payment and nothing else.

Let me elaborate on how this works - there are some Credit cards which have the purchase protection policy which is inbuilt into the card - typically most of the high end gold or platinum cards have this (can check this on Visa or Mastercard global site also). Some of the others this could be a feature which they use to market the card. With this in case there is a theft, loss or damage to the product bought on the card it is covered (typically 60-90 days)

Some cards in fact have a feature where they double the warranty on an electronic product. So if you buy a dvd player which has a 1 yr warranty they double it to 2 yrs. The second year would be the warranty (within certain limits) with the company.

Another is the price protection - if you see the same product at a cheaper price you can get the difference back from the credit card company (generally it is 15 days time limit)...

Hope this helps!!!

And definitely complaining to the CC can help if you bought the shoes on a credit card - no harm in trying once

Re: a pair of TODS shoes broken after 1 month!

Hmmm I've never heard of Tods.....oh my god i must be like so totally out of touch.

anyways I believe there is another post on the forum about someone having a similiar problem with Navyboot shoes??
If I recall correctly it was all resolved in the end. a shoe shop cannot make that excuse to you that there has been lots of complaints so just deal with it... thats madness. go back again and insist on a refund. Bring along a swiss friend if you need that extra bit of confidence due to language barriers...

B

Ps just found that post but haven't read it so not 100% sure if it was resolved amicably or not. Do Not Shop At Navyboot

Re: a pair of TODS shoes broken after 1 month!

Thanks for all your replies.
The shop is called Andrea by Fricker in Basel and it is right close to Markplatz. The boss is a young italian lady and when I showed my shoes she just said: "oh, I am sorry".. you know, you should have bought this other model, see this ballerina have a nice rubber underneath.. the one you bought are all in leather, they are so soft and so they dont last so long"

so in other words I was a stupid idiot that bought a pair of TODS for 400 SFR that break in a copple of weeks. well, in addition to feel upset I felt she was making fun of me.. (you know that have already got the cash.. so who cares anymore of your problem!).
Well, I wrote to TODS and I didnt get any feedback so far.
Last Friday, I went back to get my repaired shoes. I paid 35 CHF (half the price- we splitted the cost) for such an ugly repair. They put a long/ ugly piece of rubber underneath that does not fit at all with the style of the shoes. I told her that they look ugly, and she said: "well, you dont like them? but like this you will not fall down, they are better, safer to walk"

I told her that I never will buy these shoes anymore and honestly I will never go back to this shoes shop.

Well, when one wants to buy a Louis Vuitton, one goes to a Louis Vuitton shop.

Anyway, all branded goods have a strict quality control procedure, try visiting TOD's Zurch and inflict upon them your wrath till you get a new pair of shoes.

The longer you wait, the older your receipt will be. I would strongly recommmend that you go there, tommorow. Don't forget to use the email as an excuse as well.

Release the fury, justsally.

Good Luck!!

Oh did you ask if the shop, which you bought the shoes from, has a francise license to sell TODS products? If the shop is a parallel importer, then I'm sorry to have to tell you that you're truly screwed.

Anyway call but just to enquire about the shop and go there personally. Best would be when the shop is crowded. It's a taboo for branded shop like TODS to have an unhappy customer making a scene in their showroom.
