the parcel was delivered to my post box and a delivery note left - I recieved neither
If they delivered the package, they would not have left a note.

Most likely they left the note, and it went missing.

Thanks Scipio - thats what I did - I contacted the company from where I bought the goods from - they investigated as I told them that I hadnt got the parcel or a delivery note- its they that state that the parcel was delivered to my post box and a delivery note left - I recieved neither and they suggest that its probably been taken ....thanks
I think there is a misunderstanding: the post most likely delivered a delivery note and not the parcel (as you were not there). There is no reason for them to leave a delivery note if they delivered the parcel.

The delivery note is a piece of paper that you have to take to the post office and they hand over your parcel, usually after checking your ID. So, even if the delivery note has been stolen, your parcel might/should still be at the post office.

That's why I would check, either with the company you ordered from or your local post office if the parcel is still around.

Re: Parcel Trouble Swiss Post

I think if I had to bring up one thing I hate about Switzerland, then it is the goddamn paper mail. It is like a bloody mad-cow disease here. Ever noticed how the eyes of Swiss fire up when they think they have a legit reason to send you mail?

Or even worse, the goddamn bureaucrats! OH my god! Those goddamn bastards get some serious kick from that. They are willing to just mess with you with no reason if there is little chance they can send you more mail.

For example, a month ago I received a letter from Kresibüro, which asked me to show up, no goddamn reason given in mail. So turned out they just had me another letter at the büro, which they did not know where to send and it was filling in some data I had given them twice. Let's talk about Swiss efficiency

With banks it is even worse. They still use goddamn Pin calculators here for e-banking and send that shit over mail. No, it is not possible to order the stuff to bank and go collect it yourself. They insist sending it via mail, pins and everything. Lie seriously, what da faak is going on here? Unbelievable barbarians!!

The mail system here is so funked up beyond recognition it is hard to really describe it. And how insecure the banking is, really baffled me. I mean, if you have never been to Switzerland, you would not ever believe me.

I love everything else, though

To add insult to injury, I once got a call from the Basel Lost Property Office.

I didn't recall losing anything, but popped in. Apparently somebody had robbed my Amazon parcel, not fancied my taste in books and dumped the opened parcel on the tram.

I had to pay something like 5 CHF to get my stolen books back
I guess thats one of the benefits in being not too selective in what one reads
