Re: The 3D printing Thread

Hi everyone,

A while (few years) ago I was googling around looking to get something 3d printed.
And I recall I stumbled upon some website/platform which was sort of a crowdsource/community where you could find local/nearby self-registered people who own 3d printers, and get in touch with them to print something for you.
Do you know of something like that, and if it still exists?

Thanks

Re: The 3D printing Thread

Shapeways has been around for at least 10 years if I'm not mistaken, I think first time I used them was back in 2009 or 2010.

I've used them a couple of times, always very happy with quality and delivery. Also, at the time price was always quite reasonable given that you just had to follow simple design guidelines per material, and you don't have to have any experience/knowledge of 3d printing processes.

If you have invested in equipment and time already, they are probably expensive, but you have to pay for flexibility I guess.

I also think they have their own machines, I don't think they connect you to other parties with 3d printers.

I know a guy that did his PhD at ETH and started a marketplace for 3d printing services, but it was quite commercially oriented.

Re: The 3D printing Thread

Loads of hobby stuff, but I read you can now send off plans to get them 3d printed? So you don't need the hardware, just need to know how to draw the stuff, export it?

That said thinking of getting a printer to "print" some covers for the fence posts, feet for the dinning room chairs and I dare say I might be able to find some other items that need repairing/replacing?

Maybe a laptop or a iPad/iPhone cover too.

Anybody used a 3D printer for something a bit more industrial like this?

Re: The 3D printing Thread

Yep, I have one for general prototyping and making the odd piece where the shape would be difficult to time consuming to machine. I made a replacement clamp for inside a pool massage pump feed cover. A naked porta filter holder for a mazzer coffee grinder, some bits for the greenhouse, a bit of missing Lego.... you name it. Itís a useful tool to have around.

I also use it for prototyping bits that I later end up machining from metal for engines.

Re: The 3D printing Thread

You printed that over Christmas?! That's either a super fast printer, or you are running a few in parallel

I'm doing boxes for my ammo, and those take about a week to print each

What filament are you using? PLA? What fill setting?

3D printing possibilities endless it seems

Why the heck is the 3D-printer thread closed?!?
Turns out OP of the original 3D thread hat it closed so we all decided to start this new one after some shifting back and forth.

I was gonna ask bigblue2 to get ready to print me a house!
https://youtu.be/xktwDfasPGQ
Okay, I'll need two floors as I want a small but not a tiny house.

They are real in the Netherlands (sorry, German but it's got pictures ), China (sorry German but you can get links to pinterest if you google the picture), finally a link in English and an other one in English about a 3D printed house in Dubai (a huge one of course )
