The 3D printing Thread

As no one has started one yet

I was recently badgered into buying a 3D printer by a friend, they have come down in price quite a lot recently now the chinese have jumped on the band wagon, I got a creality cr10 30x30x40cm from Banggood for 370chf (plus the usual customs charge), mainly for printing big things

so any tips, advice, help etc etc can be asked here

Re: The 3D printing Thread

That looks great.

I was toying with the idea of getting one but the printer and printing wouldn't be the problem, it would be getting up to speed on MCAD and getting a decent package for it.

I'd be interesting in what other MCAD packages people are using and what the learning curve is like.

Good thread!

Good thread!
I've been using 3d builder - which is free
and sketchup - also free

and for encoding the files for the printer Simplify3d (not free, things like cura are free though)

The cool thing with the Creality printers is you can print from an SD card so you don't need to keep your pc on 24/7, some of my prints have taken over 100 hours

May be good to prvide some more detail like telling us what you use it for (with examples), where you buy materials from, cost of running, and how you rate it overall?

PS Just saw your edit. Please attach photos instead of hotlinking or they end up huge.

yep, I need to rescale the pics in imgur, shame on the fly doesn't work on here.

Costs - well in PLA filament (plastic) so far its taken about 15kg, its sold in 1kg rolls usually, at about 20chf per roll on line, I get mine from https://www.3d-printerstore.ch

PLA is the easiest to print as its low temp and quite forgiving

Awesome. How big is that Iron Man suit, surely it can't be big enough to fit on an actual person as a costume? I cant get a good sense of scale form the photos.

Holy moly... very impressive. You could print some amazing halloween costumes. Next: Robocop or Terminator?

Also where do you get the schematics from? Is it a case of download them then plug and play?

Re: The 3D printing Thread

Hi everyone,

A while (few years) ago I was googling around looking to get something 3d printed.
And I recall I stumbled upon some website/platform which was sort of a crowdsource/community where you could find local/nearby self-registered people who own 3d printers, and get in touch with them to print something for you.
Do you know of something like that, and if it still exists?

Thanks

3D printing possibilities endless it seems

Why the heck is the 3D-printer thread closed?!?
Turns out OP of the original 3D thread hat it closed so we all decided to start this new one after some shifting back and forth.

I was gonna ask bigblue2 to get ready to print me a house!
https://youtu.be/xktwDfasPGQ
Okay, I'll need two floors as I want a small but not a tiny house.

They are real in the Netherlands (sorry, German but it's got pictures ), China (sorry German but you can get links to pinterest if you google the picture), finally a link in English and an other one in English about a 3D printed house in Dubai (a huge one of course )
