Rental Car Ripoff - Sort of

With my employers discounted worldwide rate with AVIS (that I am allowed to use for personal rentals) here are the rates for a 6 hour one-way rental.

Pickup Zurich - Drop-off STR Airport: $384.98

Pickup Konstanz - Drop-off STR Airport: $46.92

Hmm, I can't decide which one to choose

Then I checked same except dropping off at Geneva Airport and that was $107.88 which is totally acceptable. I guess crossing the border drives up the cost.

Re: Rental Car Ripoff - Sort of

Comparing between renting a car and leaving it in the same country, and leaving a rental car in a foreign country makes no sense.

Re: Rental Car Ripoff - Sort of

Renting a car in Switzerland and dropping it off in Germany likely means the company has to find some way of getting the car back to Switzerland. Putting it on a truck or finding someone to take it back is going to cost.

Renting a car in Germany and dropping it off in Germany - there is no repatriation cost.

It's a different country, of course that drives up the cost.

I had a similar experience yesterday when buying wine.

i went to the supermarket to buy a bottle in red wine and took one of the shelf. it cost 59.95 CHF. just at the last moment, I noticed a bottle that cost only 1.99 CHF, which is 30 times less of course, I was furious and asked for the supermarket manager and complained. he tried to explain something like taste and quality blablabla but we all know that all wines are the same.

i cannot imagine this happening in other countries.
