Yes, I'm sure shouting will help

The signature thing is nonsense - OP clearly sent the accountant a load of information, corresponded with them on various topics, and ultimately the return was completed. Absolutely no chance of arguing there wasn't an agreement in place.

And how does finding someone else help - I guess OP could pay another accountant again to do the same return?

Arguing that the fee was unreasonable, without shouting or getting into a debt-collection situation, is the only way forward.

Many thanks Treverus! Thank you to all the folks that have helped me in this difficult time. I finally got this guy on the phone (after innumerable attempts where I could only reach his machine) and tried to talk him through. Needless to say he was very rude, unprofessional, elaborated his qualification and credentials rather than discuss the case. He was suggesting I pay something and then discuss 3 months later....another ploy!!!. Well thankfully I told the crook that I did not want to waste his so very valuable time and we should come to some agreement immediately. The guy has guts he says it would have cost me 6000CHF and he has already given me a 50% reduction
Anyway to cut a long story short....we agreed on 2000CHF in 4 monthly installments and he will send me a new invoice.
The criminal crook and lawyer that he is I hope to never deal with such again and wonder if I can spread this message so he does not fleece others like me...though there may be very few naive ones out there. Any thoughts!!
Well done. And well done for holding your ground. Look at it this way, you'd have spent at least a 1,000 to get a lawyer so now you're only a 1,000 down

I agree with Newtoswitz, you were fleeced and fleeced by someone who is also incompetent. But clearly he didn't want the hassle as I thought and settled to be rid of you - and of course you of him!

I sent all my documents to the personal liability insurance firm for their guidance. Their executive just called me to confirm that a verbal agreement is equally valid in Switzerland and they will not be able to cover the legal expenses for such cases. My 2 cents:NEVER TRY TO SUE IN THESE CASES. Beg and cry with these criminals if you have to save CHFs

My tax return has properties with mortgages in UK and CH, foreign rental income, CH income, portfolios in UK and CH.

I pay 500 CHF = 3 hours billed time - while I could work it out myself, that seems OK value to me vs the time it would take me.
Would you recommend your accountant to me, as that is exactly my scenario. I haven't yet found a CH accountant that knows how to treat UK assets, that is not in the 3k CHF area.

cheers.

Just go to the tax office in Zurich, they will help you fill in the form for free & probably in English. I did 15 returns myself, communicated in person & by email.

They are very easy going, small errors are an irrelevance as it's only an administrative matter unless you evade approx 300k of tax a year, unlike the UK where it's a criminal offence.
