Toys R Us is scum of the earth

We started visiting Toys R Us ever since my wife got pregnant. We wanted to buy lots of baby items, like kinderwagen, baby carrier, baby cloths etc. Their closest store from our place is in Dietlikon, and it is the worst toy store ever.

When we visited their store to check out kinderwagen, either they don't have the model on the store catalog or they only have the exhibition item. If you ask the shop assistents when they get more, they'd tell you it's like next Saturday. But if you come back on the evening of said Saturday or Monday after, they tell you they still don't have it. If you ask when the new items arrive, then they say they don't know, but you must call them before visiting next time.

After a couple of empty-handed trips like this, we decided to shop from their website. Even the website sucks. It's not straightforward to register and connect your account with star-card. Shipping the items take long time. And if you need to change or refund something you bought online, you see how hard they make things for you. The customer service will tell you to ship back the item "free of charge". Then it turns out that their package do not have the return slip. You must ask them for one, which they don't send you very soon. I once had to send back an unopened item myself because the time period for refund was running out. I had to pay the return shipment.

In total we bought stuff from them for about 700 chf. After some refund of around 500, we lost about 60 chf on items they refused to refund and items we had to send back ourselves. I won't miss this shop if they go bankrupt.

Re: Toys R Us is scum of the earth

As an expectant couple, flicking through catalogues and visiting baby shops is all part of the excitement that is part of becoming a parent. Sorry to hear Toys 'R us have made this moment less than what it should be. I wouldn't know where or who to direct you to for stuff here in CH, if this had been back home we would all tell you to go to Mothercare (fantastic and unmatched IMO anywhere I have lived before), Argos (everything under the sun with simplicity and ease) and ELC (Early learning Centre, [toys and more] also fantastic)

Mothercare deliver certain items internationally (CH does not appear on their unable to deliver list of countries) maybe have a look at them. http://help.mothercare.com/help/deli...rseas_delivery

Re: Toys R Us is scum of the earth

Hmmm... But 'scum of the Earth' label seems a bit harsh...

You will find that not only Toys r us are reluctant when it comes to refunds and replacements and returns. IKEA, for one, dragged their heels for a month and a half replacing a bad wardrobe, hoping I'd forget about it. It was all quite disorderly, not in a 'mere misunderstanding' way.

And yes, Argos are still operating and seem to be quite nice.

It seems the standard "Swiss service quality", allegedely the best in the world (surely, for Swiss people who haven't been abroad).

Funny it reminds me about this shop "Happy Baby", with terrible customer service. Had a long argument with an ex colleague, how it's better to pay higher for (crappy) service in local shops, blablabla. In the end I paid about 30% higher for a car seat they had no clue about (and lied about specs and were ignorant). Few weeks later their overpriced garbage retail bankrupted. Byebye useless business (and byebye my warranty too :/).

Now I stick to a clear and simple rule: I buy online if it's cheaper and I do not expect anything from a retailer, I find the information myself. Anyway most warranties are marketing garbage and do not cover the failure of the item.

Re: Toys R Us is scum of the earth

The days of most brick-and-mortar-stores are numbered. Everybody buys online, where it is cheaper; and in Switzerland it's likely even worse as they have to fear the competition from over the border. So they only have the most mainstream articles in stock and the cheapest available staff. It's the only way to survive until bankruptcy

So don't expect anything "special" on the shelves, don't expect expert advice, don't expect the sales drones to know anything, they just work there...

If I were you, I'd buy online.
Good luck.

I am sorry but I laughed out loud on it. Toys R Us is (was) in a semi-bankrupt situation for quite some time. Haven't you been reading the news lately?

Nothing to do with Toys''R''Us in Switzerland (And besides the UK, the rest of Europe.

It is a chain of independent companies, And the Canadian, American, British ones are going down, being sold or whatever..

Good luck.
They don't "work" there, they merely do act of presence.
You are a sales person in a shop, at the very least know a little bit about your product, and when there's limited knowledge, have the right attitude to learn about them a little bit more than "price tag" and "color".

If that's "how it is", then clearly that's not work and I can not wait to have these person replaced by a dumb-yet more intelligent- IA or automated answering junk.

Frankly, first trip there which left me empty handed as you put it would have been a big sign to not go back for me. Why wait for "reparations", for retailers to pick up the vibe of customers, to offer good service. They'll go down at their own peril so to speak.
Besids.....it's a total chaos and kids running and crying... I get an instant headache in that shop...it's 10 times worse than Ikea on a busy day.

Make Ricardo and Facebook Marketplace your friend. Baby stuff is used for a short period of time and I see very little sense in paying full RRP when there is such a massive 2nd hand market.
