Flying with Swiss [luggage/delays]

My husband and I flew from South Africa to Zurich on 06/06and got a connection to Madrid on 07/06.Our luggage was booked straight through to Madrid. My husband’s suitcase didn’t arrive and was still in Zurich. The staff at the counter for luggage problems were pleasant but first told us our luggage would arrive at 18:30. We were spending the night in Mérida and then spending 2 nights at Sotogrande for a wedding. They said it would only be delivered in Sotogrande maybe on Saturday morning. My husband would not have had any clothes to wear to the wedding and they could not confirm it would definitely arrive.
We have recently started flying business class as we are getting older and hoped this would make sorting out problems easier for us. I decided to check the flights from Zurich and there was one leaving Zurich at 12:30 arriving in Madrid at 14:30. We decided it was better to wait. This flight was delayed and we finally left the airport at 16:00 after landing at 9:00. We arrived in Mérida too late to sight see and left early for wedding commitments. Staff should be well informed of flight arrivals so they can assist better and should be able to give definite delivery days. It was a very boring 7 hours in an airport with no decent place to sit and hardly a decent restaurant.Flight . Moray Bernon

Re: Flying with Swiss

You want us to pass this on to Swiss?

As today is the 11th - did you get your luggage in time for the wedding?

Re: Flying with Swiss

If you cannot afford to miss something take it along as hand luggage. Luggage being late or gone missing is unfortunately nothing strange or rare.

We only had luggage missing once and they brought it to our home the next day with a courier which to me was excellent service.

As for the rest, what exactly is your complaint?

Re: Flying with Swiss

Checked bags rarely are lost, and missed connections are uncommon, but it does happen. If you are unhappy with the situation that you encountered then you should write to their customer service department and express your concerns. If you have any receipts for your incidental expenses you should submit those for refund. Even if you no longer have the receipts ask them to cover your reasonable expenses (caviar and champagne are not likely to be considered reasonable).

If you believe you are entitled to some compensation for your inconvenience then don’t be shy in stating what would satisfy you. Guessing what will make an unhappy customer happy is not easy for customer service. Perhaps it would be an upgrade on your next journey, or a certain amount of cash, or ... If they know what would make you happy, everyone wins.

It costs you nothing to ask.

We waited in the Madrid airport for 7 hours as did not trust the staff to get it to Sotogrande on Saturday 9th. They did not even give us the correct information regarding the time of next flight from Zurich. It was unfortunate that this flight was delayed.
Yes I do want you to pass the information to Swiss. Surely staff should know how to do their work. It is not difficult to check the time of the next incoming flight from Zurich!

That is your responsibility, nobody else can do it for you. I doubt their customer service reads this forum. And don’t forget to tell them what it is that you want. Don’t forget that the people you talked to in Madrid were not necessarily Swiss employees. Even if wearing a Swiss uniform.

Re: Flying with Swiss

Lost luggage is handled by the airport staff and not that of the airline. Your luggage unfortunately probably ended up on a big pile that was processed one after the other. So no, it can not always be told on what exact flight it will be.

Last time it took them 5 days to get my luggage to me, normally it only takes 1 day.

Also, if there is a huge pile up of luggage, it takes longer to sort that out.

This forum is nothing to do with Swiss Airlines. Maybe you should contact their customer service directly?

Just as an FYI, this is a forum for English speaking (mainly) expats in Switzerland, nothing to do with Swiss International airlines.

Try their customer care page... https://www.swiss.com/CH/EN/customer...ce-center.html

Well I suppose it's not helped by the amount of people moving to "Swiss" and starting work in "Swiss", at some point somebody googling Swiss was bound to end up here!

Yep, and soon it will be in the dictionary.

Remember "ain't ain't in the dictionary"? Those were the days.

Dear Swiss

Please get in touch with that couple on the flight from South Africa to Madrid with a connection in Zurich on 6/7 June that lost their luggage.

Regards

I contacted Swiss on your behalf and they have apologised profusely. And they offered me a free upgrade to business on my next flight as compensation. Thanks!

Re: Flying with Swiss

Joking aside, I have actually contacted Swiss on your behalf.

They said they'll be in touch shortly, probably in the next 2-4 weeks. Compensation will be an extra slice of cheese in the roll.
