That said, some of the extremely abusive posters, people like Faltrad and that select circle who cheered him on, have left or been banned. I don't think the EF is worse than it was. It is just that some of us grow nostalgic with age and view the past through rose tinted spectacles.
I do remember he used to get really upset when I called him Failtrad. Leading to me getting banned for name calling by gAce1 a few times.
Good times

Haha, it seems like he was trolled and then snapped a few times. Or was trolling back. Given the circumstances (it's EF for goodness sake) he was OK(ish) for the most part. Btw, he is not banned. I checked. | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | I am not going to watch something called "Private Idaho" no matter how hard you try to lure everyone into it here... 22Yards has already warned us. Right....I hope OP has realised by now she should have ignored a few people here and she'll come back at least from time to time. Although why "should" she if she's not amused.....nah, each to their own.

This ambiguity and nuance is what makes English humour so clever and unsettling for those expecting a more literal face to communication. Of course your comment regarding comprehension is correct though I fear those are less King Edward and more Desiree. You highlight another aspect of English behaviour: be incredibly rude to your friends and unfailingly polite to people you despise...
DaveA | Quote: | | | | Half the time, the problem is that some of us are taking the piss, and some of us are taking it seriously. Except that some of us aren't taking the piss all the time. And some people have worse reading comprehension skills than a potato. And some people are incapable of deducing context. And at least one contributor to this thread is an undiagnosed Aspy. And most of us have known each other for years and can't stand each other.
Given the circumstances, this is a surprisingly pleasant forum, really. | | | | | | The following 9 users would like to thank for this useful post:

| | Re: Groans, red blobs and forum bullies | Quote: | | | | | I remember when all this was green fields, the Dubliner was Noble and Kontiki was a wild expedition. EF was different back then of course: helping out with salary estimates; helping people understand whether they could survive on 15k/month; advising expats on the prevelance of electricity and credits cards in Switzerland. Mutual respect was commonplace and each well-formed post was polite, informative and designed to please. I have no idea how things have evolved into such unpleasantness.

I’ve had it on good authority that groaning features in both intimate relations and the reception to a Swiss joke. So yes as Herr Breakfast pointed out earlier: it’s all about the context. I’m glad we got that sorted out...

DaveA | | | | | Delicious. Yes, context is all.
We have had this bollox thread run for ages, so group hug.
I miss Idaho. AC/DC is a tad cliche, but it's ok.

George and Harry (both from the Easybeats) produced the first five AC/DC albums, and Harry gave Malcolm his Gretsch Jet Firebird, which was Malcolm's main guitar throughout his career.
Meanwhile, Bon Scott early on:

Man, I’m glad I read this thread.
Had I not, I’d have started seeing posts by this chuff character and started worrying about Richdog having a twin. And the idea of there being more than one of them in the world might have ruined this beautiful, sun-shining weekend!

| | | | | I think the actual members of AC/DC deserve the credit for being AC/DC. It's a huge stretch to say that the Easybeats evolved in to them just because previous members produced their albums.

And Malcolm DID use Harry's guitar.
And George DID probably teach him and Angus to play (or at least inspire them).

Having been on this forum over 9 years, STILL not knowing what the green or red thingies mean, let alone this scale symbol (surely I don't need to weigh myself??) nor can I upload any picture and end up usually with a meaningless post with a cross in a dark box on the top left corner...I have not been kicked out (yet!), so I think this is a pretty decent and understanding forum, really!
Some of the people you name I have met personally and they are some of the kindest, most generous people you could hope for. Yes, they like to take the piss, in a somewhat caustic, sarcastic British humour way that is completely lost on the non-initiated. Everything is to be taken with a pinch of salt and most definitely not personally.
