The smell of the neighbours cooking

Our neighbours kitchen exhaust is near to our patio. They are Peruvian and have a staple diet of meat ( maybe also Guinea pigs ). They start cooking sometimes at 0800 and it goes for hours. It stinks so BAD. Can one make a complaint to the police or otherwise?

Have you actually mentioned it to the neighbours?

Running to the police or the Gemeinde straight from the get-go seems a bit of an overkill

Learn how to make a really stinky curry in retaliation? And sort of waft the aroma in their direction.

Yes, cooking strong-smelling food is a definite crime... report them to the police and see what they say!

It seems more a complaint that I should level at the owners of the building ( ABZ ) Its around 40 years old and we are one of 8 apartments in one block . All the kitchen exhaust ducts exit either next to peoples balcony or next to the stair case windows so that opening the windows lets the smell in from the kitchen of the apartments. But of course the ABZ does not tolerate too many complaints. So it seems one has to somehow live with it.

Re: The smell of the neighbours cooking

Found this on another English ( Australian ) forum

"An offensive odour at this level is one that affects the general life, health and wellbeing of an individual as a result of the intensity, character, frequency and duration of the odour. Before an environmental organisation can take action on offensive odour, it must be verified and sourced by an environment protection officer who is accredited to assess odour and take statements from whoever has reported the pollution."

Could it be that they are from Aztec origin and just cooking the meat of the human sacrifies?

You already had a thread on those neighbours .... I remember this complaint of yours.
They still refuse to invite you for dinner then?

This would appear to be a self-profiling attempt of someone aspiring to be moderator of this forum. Do you harbour such ambitions ?

Re: The smell of the neighbours cooking

Haha, the fun goes on with our groaned-at-champion.

On the serious side, this matter should primarily be dealt with the "Hausverwaltung", very likely in the "Hausordnung" there is written something about it. And as ABZ is a "Genossenschaft" (cooperative), their tenants have stronger positions against landlords pressure than usual tenants, but sometimes also are scrutinized more seriouly through the "Verwaltung" (administration) than in the normal housing market.
Taking it to the police is just foolish, as, if at all, it would be a matter of the "Schlichtungsbehörde" (court for such issues).

As a challenge for xenophobes, I suggest to donate them an xtra strong carbon+ filter for their exhaust. Unless you fear their machetes?

No idea why, I cannot edit my posts? The field remains blank.

Anyway, the complete guide for the issue can be found here: https://www.ch.ch/en/noise-disturban...ms-neighbours/
