But, hey ho, as I said, we all have a different definition of good manners.
I believe it's a life skill, just as much as learning to cook, driving a car, learning to swim, etc... It gives children more confidence when they become adults, because they can handle formal dining situations with relative ease.

The point is, people have their own, different (not better, or worse) ways of doing things and personally I don't really need PMs (with red blobs) from people reading this thread (but who haven't actively participated) telling me I what I should, and shouldn't do as far as my childrens' table manners are concerned.

One would have thought they had better manners and would discuss this on the thread rather than in an underhand way.
I think I can guess who that was.

Re: Restaurant doesn't want me to eat there because of my kids

I felt some sympathy as I regularly go for lunch with a friend and her 3 girls all under 8 but I'm sorry, you lost me with the Peppa pig on the phone. Listening to people playing videos on their phones in restaurants - no matter how 'low' the volume is incredibly irritating. I see people plop their kids infront of iPads and phones all the time.... when did books become so 'unfashionable'?

My friend carries books to read, books with stickers and colouring books with pencils for her girls and they happily giggle away and entertain themselves with these activities. They ask questions and interact with the 'grown-ups' too.
They are a pleasure to go out with.
They only leave the table to go to the bathroom and all have to to pick up their own mess... she started at an early age to teach them that waiters/tresses are not their to clear up behind them...

To be fair, who hasn't got a reb blob and a nasty comment from that guy? He only comes on the forum to groan and red blob, and almost never actively takes part in the conversation.

And to the topic, I suggest moving on and forgetting about this restaurant, life's to short. I get that it's frustrating to be treated this way but you've done everything you can.

I would suggest attempting to clean up a bit after your kids at least in future, just to show the staff you care. Problem solves itself in a few years anyway

Does anyone know how to get teenagers to stay at the table?

Advantage with teens is that you can throw them out of the restaurant after which you can continue to eat yourself.

I can't, but then I don't do negative PMs, and rarely red blobs.

Groans, on the other hand, are a dime a dozen, and should be viewed as such.

Best indicator of a child friendly restaurant is the presence of a kiddie menu. Otherwise, ....

Anyway here's a place that I'm certain the OP and her kids will absolutely enjoy:

They're the ones my kids try and avoid.

If a restaurant wants children to behave like grown-ups in a restaurant then they should drop the chicken-nugget, mince, and mini pizzas and serve them proper food like the adults are having.

Re: Restaurant doesn't want me to eat there because of my kids

Sometimes kids and adults, the elderly, stroke victims, etc. have disabilities and struggle to manage food, knife and fork in a neat and tidy manner.. but then, I guess, they should not bother to go out and stay at home for fear they might make a mess and annoy everyone.

Restaurants are more than happy when customers spend a fortune on wine/cocktails/beer and ignore the raucous, loud table, overlook the odd breakage, food mess or spill as long as the money rolls in.

Not sure how the menu choices have any bearing on behaviour or maturity

Kids can be arseholes or angels regardless of whether they are eating deep-fried fish fingers or organically sourced sushi.

I think the salt and sugar levels in kids processed food can send them batty. By the by, didn't Swiss Dentists a few years ago complain about the free syrup available everywhere and the increase of rotten teeth in small kids? Sugar and additives in food can have an harmful effect on kids behaviour and health, no question.

My kids have been eating from the adult menu for a few years now. The kids menus are mostly awful.

I have never understood why kids can't have a smaller version of an adult dish.

The idea that sugar makes kids immediately hyperactive has been disproven by experiment, and I don't know how you think that salt could have any such effect. Unhealthy,, yes, but causing them to go 'batty', I don't think so.
