if indeed they even want to join you in the restaurant in the first place.
Exactly, my son would rather go to the kebap place next door. So I peel him off a 20- and we see each other in 2hrs. Win-win

So, how about an EF event at this restaurant, and everyone brings their kids and we show them that adults can be worse than the kids

Still, it reminds me of the dinner scene in the Naked Gun movie.

Not sure how the menu choices have any bearing on behaviour or maturity

Kids can be arseholes or angels regardless of whether they are eating deep-fried fish fingers or organically sourced sushi.
I can only talk from experience but my children at least, take food and eating quite seriously and really enjoy it.
The more interesting the food, the more likely they are to concentrate on it and enjoy the experience.
They are quite likely to try something on a menu that they haven't had before and their choices usually confuse the waiters as when they bring their food over, they assume it's for the adults.

It's why I don't like electronic media at the table - food and eating is one of life's greatest pleasures and should be taken seriously.

I ought to add that our kids are like any others and when overtired, or otherwise upset, they can be little s**ts at the table!
