Another proof of how cantonal management is in the hands of terrible functionaries

They create traffic jams by blocking roads with endless works to inflate the budget. See how many times they replaced, unnecessarily, the Paving slabs in your area....

Genève garde le record suisse du bouchon routier. Mais ça va mieux!

Circulation routièreLa Cité de Calvin serait la 29e ville la plus engorgée d’Europe. Mais la saturation décroît.

Edition after edition, it remains indestrônable. Geneva still holds the Swiss record for the road stopper, according to the 2018 ranking by a manufacturer of GPS systems. The TomTom Traffic Index 2018, published on June 4, ranks Geneva 65th in the world (out of a total of 403 agglomerations analyzed) and 29th among 229 European cities. This year, the top trio consists of the Indian Bombay and the Colombian and Peruvian capitals, Bogotá and Lima. In the palmares planetary, Geneva has near neighbors Shanghai, Hamburg, Luxembourg or Porto Alegre.

Are the Geneva embarrassments comparable to those of a Chinese megalopolis of 26 million inhabitants? It all depends on the method used. TomTom, which relies on data from its users, compares in the different cities travel times between a period where traffic conditions are fluid and others where they are, on the contrary, saturated then calculates a rate that illustrates longer journeys caused by congestion.

In Geneva, as in Shanghai, it is 33% on average. The busiest periods can go up to 71% (Friday in the late afternoon). Morning traffic jams appear to be a little less penalizing, the busiest occurring on Tuesdays (on average, trips are 60% longer) and Thursday (58%). At the end of the lake, the worst day of 2018 was Thursday, March 1, while the most fluid was a real gift dropped from the sky on Tuesday, December 25!

The second most congested city in Switzerland, Zurich has a rate of 31%, ranking it 89th in the world. Lugano is 120th, Lausanne 127th (both with a rate of 28%), Basel 167 (26%) and Berne 256th (20%). If Geneva remains the black spot of the country, its score has yet improved, with a rate that has been reduced by one point in a year. In 2014, the City of Calvin still had a score of 36%. Is this an effect of the fluidification efforts deployed in recent years, including the creation of green waves or the removal of traffic lights?

At the TCS, we remain perplexed by this supposed bowl of air. "TomTom's methods are demonstrable and therefore difficult to counter, but our members do not see any improvement," said François Membrez, president of the Geneva section. The bad ranking of Geneva is dramatic and deserves to be a priority of the legislature, which it is not. It's about improving the lives of people, to avoid penalizing the economy and reducing pollution. "

What do we say to the state? The Cantonal Infrastructure Department is cautious about these international rankings, due to the fluctuations observed over the years and lack of visibility on their calculation methods. But he notes that his own data corroborate a backlog of bottlenecks. "According to our flow index mentioned in the 2018 accounts, there is a daily congestion of 5:30 in 2018 while it was still 5:51 in 2015," writes Yves Bellego, on behalf of the department. We are talking here about the average time, during a working day, when the traffic is dense or saturated.

This improvement is explained, according to the communication officer: "It is probably to be put on the account of the first measures of deployment of the new light regulation strategy that accompanies the implementation of the LMCE (note: the law on mobility voted in 2016), which aims in particular to improve the fluidity of traffic on penetrants and the average belt, he says. These improvements will continue and even accelerate with an implementation program that will intensify further with the arrival of Léman Express. "A commissioning scheduled for December.

Did you actually get to the end of it? You’re a better woman than I am if you managed that.

Well I stuck at it and figured out that the Geneva embarrassments are a corroboration of the indestrônable inhabitantses in busy periods with a 27% chance of rain, increasing the fluidication, placing them at 89% ahead of a ranking of 63, which puts them on a semi par with Shanghai and Plymouth-ho as far as the taxidermy of caravans at rush-hour goes.

Typically, the state of Geneva is maintaining a bureaucratic silence over the whole situation.

I thought it may have been something to do with a fonctionaire taking bribes from a Chinese takeaway

They can only do that if there are lumps of concrete in the meal.

Every day we learn.

Today I learned that Shanghai is a near neighbour of Geneva.

(could not continue reading, since it is unreadable.)

Seems to correlate with the number of commuters and specially cross border commuters.

@OP what is your solution for the perceived mess?
(For a complete answer please consider Braess's paradox and where and from the people go.)

The simplest solution to that end would be for commuters to not commute. Something tells me though that's not what they mean, I wonder why.

Why not ban the OP until he/she is sober again? Just too many terrible threads in one day.
