Zone 14

Not that I really care, but see the map. Zone 14 added between Euroairport and the main Basel zone 10. Presumably implemented solely to increase the cost of a ticket to/from the airport.

Re: Zone 14

Not a single bus stop in Zone 14, is just to increase 30% the price to the airport.

From SBB to Euroairport is now 6.10 CHF, was 4.70 CHF.

If only I knew how to get a bus from the SBB to the airport. Any ideas?

Take the left exit at the centralbahnplatz, there you will find bus No.50 to the airport.

Thank you. So when I arrive from Zurich I walk up to the passage way and go to the left. Will certainly come handy wenn I will take a flight from BSL. Apropos travel, according a certain Douglas Adams one should never travel without a towel. Question: Where can I buy one in Switzerland?

Correct. Two questions. First, why do you even mention ZRH. Second, how the f, did I got stuck in the Media Market. There is no effing bus 50 in the Media Markt. Stupid Basel, now I will miss the flight. And still no towel.

Strip it down, put all the bits in a truck, reassemble them at the airport.

Re: Zone 14

It's something a lot of public transportations are doing, to charge a premium for touristic places / airports.

ZRH isn't completely innocent with Mt. Uetliberg.

Zug is even more obvious with their Zugerberg.

In Spain it's very normal to either add some 2-3 extra zones for the airport (like VLC) or simply charge a massive surcharge (like MAD - where one can opt to walk one station / 500m and save 3€ at least )

On the other hand, Malaga airport is fair, no extra surcharge and very convenient. But that's because it's the National Railway (RENFE), not a local one.

And don't even let me start with airports in Greece

Re: Zone 14

Just buy a GA and damn their impudence. Doesn’t the TNW U-Abo cover the extra zone?

Be careful with a GA in Basel (generally spoken, not with the airport). They found out to cheat the GA being valid on all Swiss public transportation systems by making trips across the border not being included in it (while it's accepted with their "U Abo")

There was already a tourist premium (full price with no halbtax).

Yes. Only zones determine the costs of a Bus trip. There are many zones without any bus stop across Switzerland.

Same goes for Zug when you take the Zugerberg funicular (Zone 611-613).

According to the current SBB map, the bus to BSL airport is covered by GA+Halbtax. At least that's how I read it.
