I don't know MC, if I were the CEO of any Swiss pharma conglomerate, I would first hand make sure, that my employees and the country I'm associated with have all the gear and equipment it requires. But this mandates having backbone and integrity. Germany is looking after their own, hence the seizure of our products. Pharma should have gotten together and implemented a complete halt to all goods sold to Germany, I wonder how quickly they would have released their goods then. But I understand, how this is viewed as anti-business from the stockholders. We got Deepak Chopra running Novartis and yet, I haven't seen one itty bitty statement from him in the news. . .not even a "Hey, look we working on this" on Blick or Instagram, to show that pharma is somewhat involved in this mess.
I wonder. But pharma doesn't make protective gear. It is like wanting from banks to be high on paper supplies. I realize they could have pushed with meds...but neutrality, right?

I don't know who makes them but they're at the source. I would have parachuted masks to everybody, so that we don't have to waste time on landing and putting stuff on trucks.

I don't think you need a sewing class. People sew well here.

Btw, Czechs made their own masks, 3D printed respirators and shields and those with private planes flew all this to hospitals and old folks home. It is nice to see VIP policians with nutty fabric masks made by wives, moms and grandmas. And by guys too, for sure. The weird thing is, this quiet mobilisation was done fast and spontaneously, organized well. Kept people busy and away from stress, anxiety and constant filming themselves and posing online.

I don't know what are you talking about.

I am saying that a shortage of protective gear was quickly fixed within a couple of hours within the country, not imported, when it was needed in CZ. Not making comments on CH and how long it took them to fix it, that was LiB. He may want your video. Importing things has proven to be fickle these days.

Apples with apples my truculent friend. Those countries you've mentioned have cities with a population larger or close to that of entire Switzerland. And yes, they don't practice medicine with a bamboo rod and a vial of Mississippi snake oil. . .they do have very competent healthcare in those places. However, what I find completely appalling, is that Switzerland, being a hub for so many pharma companies has to beg Germany to release medical gear, something completely incomprehensible. My pharmacy is still out of masks and hand disinfectant. How is that even possible, if it weren't for the fact, that healthcare and its supply chain in this country are performing at a substandard level.
While I have no doubt that Switzerland has aspects of its healthcare, both major and minor, that are in need of improvement, lets not overdramatise it into a "good swiss healthcare is a myth" blanket and exaggerated statement, which clearly is not the case. It would be more accurate to say: "Swiss healthcare is overall of a very good standard, but it has some weaknesses...".

This pandemic is exposing the deficiencies and lack of preparedness in almost every Western healthcare and economical system and I see no reason why Switzerland would be exempt from that. The aftermath will likely cause a lot of "lessons learned" changes to be made and force stockpiles of equipment to be produced and made and ready for action in pretty much every country that can afford to do so. Until now we have watched things like SARS from afar and as such we were caught with our pants down. Next time we had better be ready to act immediately.

Maybe if your hatred of China would extend to refusing to use a keyboard which has components sourced from China, we would all get a rest here from this continuous anti-China diatribe.
Good to see China being raked over the coals, it's long overdue.

Whispers the UK May be about to cancel the Huwei 5G deal. This should have happened regardless of coronavirus! This comes in the week that China decided to revise up the number of deaths in Hubei, still well away from the real number of course!

You can't even spell the name correctly..

If the UK wants to be left behind with old-day technology (AND pay more for it), it would perfectly fit into their Brexit strategy. Or better said, the lack of it.

I hope Huawei charges them double when they eventually come crawling back. Just like the EU will

With the US alone having more deaths in a single day compared to China overall, maybe you should have a look at how terribly your beloved MAGA Trump is doing..

Re: Chinese tourist invasion

TBF (a bit) China was in a difficult situation back in January in Wuhan. It was chaotic to the point of resembling the Zombie-Apocalypse.

Italy will probably also have to revise its numbers up, once the mortality-tables can be evaluated - and that's not even talking about the US....

As for the original topic: don't expect any Chinese tourists anywhere in the world soon.

There's no vaccine in sight, just antivirals. Large gatherings will probably be banned throughout the Summer. We may not even have Christmas-markets, given the likeliness of a "Second Wave" in late Fall, early Winter.

If you work anywhere connected to the tourist-sector, you'll be in for a very, very long drought.

Rats everywhere and all around the world. Given that the US appear to not test enough, the same is likely to apply to them, too.
Quote:
An analysis by the Financial Times this week suggested the true death toll in the UK could be 41,000 – twice what has been recorded.

Equally it is assumed that official figures for infections in the UK are much lower than the true figures, owing to a lack of testing.

Similar issues were highlighted in Spain on Thursday, when the federal government and Madrid’s regional government reported conflicting figures for deaths.

Well well well, a scientific paper due to be published soon, peer reviewed and authored by respected scientists, has found following a detailed etiology of the coronavirus that within the RNA sequence of the virus that there are inserts that could not have occurred naturally indicating the virus came from a lab.

We shouldn't forget not so long ago such claims were dismissed as a conspiracy theory and that Zero Hedge was kicked off Twitter for questioning Chinese laboratory involvement!
