Third World conditions in Zürich [toilets]

Was on the Zürich lake last Thursday sitting in a "coffee house" a little along from Bellevue directly on the lake. Wanted to go to the toilett. They had one there . The males entrance was boarded up and the other looked like for both. The inside of the toillette was disgusting-full of piss and paper and waste water lying on the floor. Worse than anything I have seen in India! Switzerland-third world country!!

I thought with the picture you were going to complain about how many sunken boats there are next to the pier...

Re: Third World conditions in Zürich

It's just that the ladies toilets are always like that. Ladies can't seem to keep the place clean.

Ladies seem do some acrobatics to avoid touching the seat thus end up spraying over the walls, roof and floor and dropping paper and other 'devices' around the floor. Ladies also seem to participate in the sport of unrolling all of the toilet paper onto the floor.

Us gentlemen just pee in a trough, gentlemen don't defecate in public toilets, the stalls are normally in a far better condition than the ladies plus the paper is still in the roll.

This is my controversial observation from having two girls and having to take them to the gents many times because of the state of the ladies.

So there

Re: Third World conditions in Zürich

So you went to a coffee house on a lake, had a nice drink, went to a toilet which had paper, just some people before you made a mess. And that is worse than a 3rd country?

My worst was a toilet that had not been emptied in some time in an eastern country some years ago and shit was pilling so high that you had to shit in some paper next to the toilet and than place it on the pile...

Confronting the coffee place manager over the state of the toilet was too much of a challenge compared to a post on EF =)

I fly to Edinburgh on Friday and at some point will probably have to use Sh1trail (Scotrail). Now that really IS like experiencing something from a third world country, I would rather travel on the roof of a train in India

Re: Third World conditions in Zürich

We spend a lot of time camping through spring/summer .. We've seen a lot of bad toilets from restaurants to highway gas stations..

The worst was a campsite in St Tropez, a fairly normal looking site but clearly the campers were just deranged .. Everyday, soon after cleaning there would be poop smeared on walls, used toilet paper stuck to doors, pee everywhere. It was clearly not just one guilty party either. one day there was what I can only describe as an adult diaper, stuck by it's contents to the back of a door.

I took a lot of photos and I complained and got a full refund.

Re: Third World conditions in Zürich

If you think that's bad you should go have a look at France. I had a seriously shocking experience in Paris back in 2017 at the park surrounding the Eiffel Tower.

I don't know what the problem was at that time (I'm assuming it's not always like this), but there was a single public toilet available for use and thus everyone at the park was queueing up for it. Now don't get me wrong, I've used my fair share of outhouses and portable toilets in my time, including in numerous "third world" countries.

But this toilet here in Paris. Wow. The smell was unbelievable, and smell radius was at least 150 meters without wind, no exaggeration. I couldn't believe there were people sitting around in the grass enjoying picnics

I thought OK, maybe the smell is bad but maybe I'm just being too sensitive, as there are so many others willingly waiting in line. So I waited my turn, thinking it would just take a second in there. But wow, upon entering that capsule I knew instantly and viscerally I had to withdraw. **GRAPHIC WARNING** the latrine was so full it had already overflowed and was leaking down onto the floor and probably out of the porta-potty (I didn't stop to check as I ran out of there as fast as possible).

I agree there's a major lack of good public toilets (and yes, there are some seriously nasty ones) here in CH especially when compared with places like Japan, but boy if you have a problem here you should travel a bit around Europe and have a look at what it could be.

I used the ladies loos at Pisa railway station, they were the type that keep automatically flushing at frequent intervals. Only nipped in for a quick wee and left with a really wet backside
