I will probably take a day trip to Balconia
Shouldn't this be in the "You know you've been in Switzerland too long when..." thread? Sure we had one of those once.

Neuchâtel too- of course this year all the activities organised by the Unions and POP party are cancelled due to Covid 19.

It's a public holiday in Aargau, Basel-Land, Basel-Stadt, Fribourg, Jura, Schaffhausen, Solothurn, Thurgau, Ticino, Zurich.

However if you work in a company with a collective agreement often the Trade Unions get the 1st of May as an extra day off for all employees in the contract.
Not in all Aargau. My contract is in Baden where May 1st is not a holiday

It’s quite a recent addition to the bank holiday calendar in Neuchâtel, it wasn’t a holiday when we first moved here.

It is one for ABB. Aargau is always a mess regarding public holidays.

It seems a mess everywhere, with municipalities varying even within the same canton.

This site has a pretty good breakdown where you can search by canton or by day and even find very specific municipal holidays.
https://www.feiertagskalender.ch/ind...geo=3056&hl=en

The first page defaults to English with that link but then the rest of the pages are in German. If you want French or Italian, change the last two letters of the link to fr or it.

Re: 1st May: no public holiday

So nobody is going to set some stuff in Kreis 4 on fire or throws rocks at the cops? Some traditions should be adhered to, Corona or not.

As we are in a lock down situation, everyone is supposed to demolish their own house this time

I came to complaints corner to ask how is it even possible that 1st May is not a public holiday!
It's awful. You'd think a canton that recognizes Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Corpus Christi, the Swiss National Holiday, All Saint's Day, the Immaculate Conception, Christmas and New Years Day (not to mention any Gemeinde holidays), would also recognize Labor Day too.

Disgraceful

I sure miss working in Liechtenstein, where there are so many bank holidays in a year that you lose count.

In Geneva, I think, Government offices are closed. But I think that’s about it. It isn’t a cantonal holiday.
I believe that in Geneva you're allowed to go and parade through the streets to commemorate the 1st May on your employer's time. Obviously not this year as no parade.

What difference does it make anyway? Almost all of us have had 4 weeks off and if you're stuck at home unable to go out and socialise what else is there to do??
The fact you can even ask this questions speaks of:

1. An inability to relax
2. A lack of hobbies
3. Not realizing that we are allowed to go outside and walk/run/bike etc

Overall, it was a pretty sad post if all of those 3 things are true for you.

Exactly. People from Zug with all their catholic holidays have no right to complain.

If I get beat up by the police later today in ZH, can I sue them for breaking the 2m social distancing ?
