What is wrong with POST CH?

Hello guys,

I ordered something from AliExpress and all went good. Today the item was to be delivered but Post CH decided to return the item. I checked my adress that i gave to AliExpress and it's all good. Same thing happened to me year ago. I called the Post than but the lady just told me: Sorry nothing i can't do. She even didn't bother to check the tracking number.

Re: What is wrong with POST CH?

AliExpress consignments are like catnip to customs - probably nothing to do with Post. Incorrect declarations, under-reported value, marked as a gift or ‘sample’, no CE mark, missing invoice. Try paying a few Francs more and buy from somewhere reputable.

Just to understand your situation: do you have written proof by the Post or was it your estimate? How do you know the item is being returned?

If you are registered with the Post, they send you an email when
a) they receive the goods from the previous stage (foreign courier, customs...)
b) they schedule the delivery to your address

Only after you receive the first email they are responsible for the delivery, and only after you receive the second you can be sure about delivery date - the estimation by AliExpress has no meaning since the processing time at the customs cannot be estimated.

Depending on the article, if it doesn't meet the requirements/standards of the EU single market for items covered by the Swiss/EU bilaterals, it can be sent back.

I once received a sticker in yellow posted by Germany stating such non-conformity at my German PO but perhaps got is as an exception. Repeated orders may have been returned (I didn't re-order).

Re: What is wrong with POST CH?

I can’t think of any reason why Swiss Post would return an item. Particularly if it was delivered to the border by another post office. The suspicion that it was customs sounds the most likely.

If you use this shipper again ask them to fill out the declaration correctly. No ‘gift’ or ‘sample’ claims and an actual value supported by the invoice.

Re: What is wrong with POST CH?

I'm still waiting on stuff from Aliexpress i ordered in 4th April.. !!

Says it left the country of origin on the 16th April.. No further updates.. Normally you can claim a refund after a month but they extended it to 11th July because of 'exceptional circumstances' ..

Re: What is wrong with POST CH?

John, much of that ‘exceptional circumstances’’ was the significant reduction in ‘lift’ from Hong Kong to Europe. Belly space in passenger flights evaporated and dedicated freighters were tasked to carry medical equipment.

Demand for capacity is still much higher than supply and could continue for months.

Pretty much the same, but have been getting a few refunds as well and most of my parcels arrived in Switzerland before deciding not to move anymore. Not everything has been extended.

Interestingly, I've gotten two items a week or so after getting a refund.

Oh I totally get it.. I know the logistics and I takes my chances. I don't order anything important
Interesting though that all of the tracking says the stuff left China within 5 days of ordering.

I've had couple of random items arrive from wish in quick time, like 16 days, others are well into week 3 now.. Everything says it left the country of origin, so I wonder if it's all sitting in a customs warehouse here.

Wish is an instant refund when the stuff doesn't arrive but Aliexpress is a bit more involved, opening a dispute after a specific date, getting a response from the seller etc..

With Venetian on this, as written, the story doesn't add up. You need to give more info if you want help. I use the Post a lot for sending parcels and quite often for receiving them from CH and abroad, and I very rarely have a problem.

That's exactly right, the shipment has cleared outbound customs controls in the country of origin and is waiting to be loaded onto a flight.

Re: What is wrong with POST CH?

@OP: may I ask, what was the item? Is it possible that the item is regulated or a forbidden item, e.g. green point laser, or radar detector?

Re: What is wrong with POST CH?

There's also always the possibility that as the sheer volume of packages from China is vastly decreased, the Swiss air freight customs have more time on their hands so are being more diligent with package inspections and a parcel that may have easily got through before is now being inspected and as Caleb write, rejected if illegal.

I ordered mine in March, was stupid to do so. It is currently in auto universe, never again.

Customs has sent numerous packages of mine back because the retailer did not provide the correct information. It really is a pain to order anything from abroad in Switzerland, which is why many retailers will ship to everywhere in the world, but here.

The problem lies when shippers are not truthful about the shipment. Shipments from China including HKG seem to be the worse. They think they are doing you a favour, but they are not.

Indeed, but this happens from everywhere and for numerous reasons. I ordered some guitar picks recently from the US that were sent back because the company stupidly didn't even include the value because it was so low. I also had a big hand carved chair sent back to the UK from a reputable retailer because of a small anomaly they forgot. Because of that situation, that retailer no longer sends big items to CH. It really is a pain!

It's not like a forklift operator in a warehouse is filling out those forms, there's people specialized in international sales....they literally have one job

And it’s not as the Swiss have any special requirements. They apply the international standards.

This could include awaiting consolidation, meaning waiting until their are enough packages to the same destination to qualify for a lower rate per kg.
