Rolling coal

Well, I got coal rolled on last Thursday on the A1 just after midnight, well....early Friday. For people not familiar with the term, this is coal rolling.

It was a nice evening, warm air, the stars so I had to drive with roof down. Just after crossing the Aare near Aarburg is a 3 lane highway and I was in the middle. Someone joins the highway in an Audi 4/6 avant, at relatively high speed, crosses into the middle lane and gets very close to my car. I just held the wheel, lifted the foot from the gas and was ready to profit from the cornering abilities of my car. The individual(s) on the other car apparently took offense of me not yielding to them, overtook me an slowed down to 80 km/h in front of my car, then activated whatever device they got on the Audi diesel engine to produce a large amount of smoke while accelerating very slowly.

I just laughed because cabrios deflect air over your head, so I breathed zero smoke, steered to the right and few seconds later they were left behind with their smoke. Went above the speed limit for a few, saw the Audi leaving the A1 for Basel, and that's it. Kids do stupid things, anyway it piqued my curiosity. Anyone else had been coal rolled? Is it a thing around here too?

haha, no. It wasn't just an oil diesel engine burning more oil than diesel. It's about modifying the fuel/air mixture to make a lot of soot.

I'm familiar with it, and I'm to lazy to look up the exact ruling but I have no doubt that such here is illegal and beyond doubt a very hefty fine.

Too much testosterone. There are some pretty effective drugs that can help with that.

Possible, but probably no reason to here. It's good practice to make space for a car on the onramp, generally speaking, and being 3-laned there's still one free even if OP took their time to move to the right.

Been telling my GF that the purpose of this sort of behavior (also going vroom vroom with a sportscar) is that girls take their top off... every time we encounter someone like that I look at her expectantly

Re: Rolling coal

I see, you were near Olten, huh.
The only issue I have with the thread, is that the perp drove an Audi. Other than that, it was pretty much textbook procedure for rolling coal.

Re: Rolling coal

Way back in the day there was a smoke generator made by Bosch to blow smoke into a truckerīs face from your car. Kind of a payback for their smokey old diesel trucks.
So itīs nothing new.

Yes. Exactly. The last eight seconds or so of the video in OP reminded me of those people who deliberately blow their cigarette smoke in one's face, possibly in smoke rings... and think that that's somehow going to make them more attractive.

Wow, that ad is unspeakably gross. Encouraging, I suppose, to look on it and see that the world has progressed somewhat, since the 60s (or whenever that ad was made).

Not so much here with regards to smoking in other people's faces compared with many other countries.

Re: Rolling coal

Take comfort from the fact that if someone tries this, a portion of the soot will stay in the exhaust/filter etc so if they make a habit of this they'll soon pay the price at their garage as cleaning/replacing things here is often an expensive job.

I took comfort in knowing the A1 is full of cameras Unless the driver works in something related to highway infrastructure and knows where the cameras are

And what do you think they will do with the cameras?

Authorities are even reluctant to using cameras for investigating capital crime. . .do you really believe they will bother with someone rolling coal?
