Package from Post stolen! Any advice?

I ordered a book from Orell Fusli online 3 weeks ago,and yesterday i found in my briefkasten a bill from them but no book anywhere. Then i went from door to door in the whole building asking about the book but everybody played dumb and suprised. The situation is like this. Theres 4 more apartment in the building with mosty older people from Portugal and Turkey , and i know for a fact no one from them speak any english (the book was in english). Plus there a one apartment with a pretty loud young couple above me that are new in the building.(they arrived 2,3 weeks ago, they played loud music all night ,argue ,making noice constantly). When i rang on their door they hesitate to open several times and then they acted angry and suprised. Im living in the same building for like 10 years and there were apsolutelly no problems with post since i got here. I would sincerely appreciated if someone could give me the fair advice, because i dont know what else could i do more.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Package from Post stolen! Any advice?

Have you by any chance, prior to accusing half your building of theft, asked Fusli if they send the bill and book separately? Or the tracking number to see the weight of the package, or asked the post if they messed up?

Actually screw it, call the police. Peoples inability to control volume and kleptomania have a direct correlation. Open and shut case.

Re: Package from Post stolen! Any advice?

I would talk to Orell Füssli. I think they have an insurance against things getting lost in the post. Unless they can prove the item was actually placed in your letter box, they are liable for it.

If they can prove it was placed in your letterbox, then it's your problem if somebody stole it out of your letterbox. Maybe your Hausratversicherung is the place to go next.

I once had an item stolen from my letterbox many years ago. It's value was about 200CHF and I specifically asked for and payed for it to be sent registered but they ignored that instruction. They thus had to replace it at their cost, which they eventually did. But it took a lot of irate phone calls and dragging of feet and threats of involving a lawyer.

This is one of the reasons I now generally have parcels delivered to my work address.

Re: Package from Post stolen! Any advice?

I called the Post and they told me they had delivered it. I also contacted Orell Fusli they said the same.

Re: Package from Post stolen! Any advice?

We had a similar issue a couple of years ago. Packages that were deposited in the "Milchkaste" or at the front door got stolen quite often.

I called the post and ask them to never leave packages in the "Milchkaste" or at the front door. Problem solved.

You could also try asking the vendor to re-send you the item. Digitec, for example, will usually send you a form to fill in and send you the item again free of charge.
