Almost everybody here in this very thread turned around about at least point regarding covid and measures. Such is the way humans process new situations.
But not you?

One can hardly call it "spanked" by Efers when those that don't conform to the "EF" view fall foul of the shameless partisan moderation that plagues these pages. Like our friend Full Circle who appears to have been banned for "repeated insults", they must be the wrong kind of insults compared to those that get hurled in my general direction

I groan when people try to make a discussion personal with the sole purpose of trying to provoke a response. Rather like trying to associate my name with Donald Trump, which by the very act is Trumpian behavior. Repeat a lie often enough and all that.

It's not worth my while to engage on such a level, and I won't be feeding the trolls.
OK, TC, whatever you say! You just relax, and make sure you take your pills.

Wow, that was pretty quick, trying to disown the hundreds of pro-Trump statements you've posted on EF over the last year or so. I understand, though, I'd be ashamed too.

Indeed, best not to share with the others. That does seem to fit your ethos, actually.

They're probably miserable... and scared. A level of animosity this high and a yearning to shame/belittle others this strong is clearly mirroring some deep-seated deficiency of affection. No need to be a psychologist to get that (as if psychologists understood anything about the human mind, let alone narcissism). No wonder they feel so vulnerable to covid – this level of hostility must take its toll on immunity.
Also, something that some here don't seem to understand is: expressing criticism over rules doesn't necessarily imply non-compliance.

It's funny, two days ago, a well-appreciated infectious disease expert was on the news on tv and suggested, in-between a few sentences, that masks may not be as effective as we've thought... and that physical distancing and hand hygiene trump masks. I guess when it's an expert or someone with credentials who says it, no one bats an eye, but when a layman on the internet expresses their skepticism, the flood gates are suddenly open for the insecure, reclusive virtue signalers to hurl their fury and bully them?

Strange.
Apologies for not responding sooner; I was looking for 'figs' to give about your opinion but have so far found myself unable to locate even a single one.

I forgot, one is not allowed to give credit to Donald Trump without being labeled "pro-Trump", does that make you Antifa then nevertheless, I am perfectly at ease doing so. It probably says more about your own insecurities if you really think this is a way of shaming me.

Actually, it's the reversion to insults and abuse that keep me going. A good cause does not require such an arsenal. If you were to step away from from your laptop and this comfortable forum where the heretics are outcast you would see that the majority of people have moved on from masks and lockdowns. On busses, trains and in the street, many people aren't wearing them anymore. It's unenforceable, the fines aren't working and yet infections are halving every two weeks.

Of course you do, I wouldn't expect anything else! Aside from the small matter that you appear to have misunderstood what I wrote, it is of little wonder you fail to see my argument as "good".

When you surround yourself with people who revalidate your beliefs, and where information is reinforced and confirmed by the company you keep (i.e. here), it is little wonder that you feel I am not on the "good" side of the argument. I'm sure if Kittster is feeling generous enough to share their wisdom then he/she can explain all about communal reinforcement and social conformity.

I am not being insulting, I was trying to explain why the environment here is not conducive to the formation of independent assessment and opinion.

To return to the subject at hand though. It may come as many a disappointment to those that hope for fines to be a sufficient deterrent that to date only around 100 on the spot fines have been handed out on UK public transport, with only around 200 fines elsewhere in the country for mask non-compliance.

Would be interesting to see the data from Switzerland.

I see a lot of people insulting you because they disagree with your opinion. It is unfortunate and kudos for staying civil.

I still think personally that unfortunately we still do not have better, more efficient measures than masks and lockdowns, but whether they are actually that efficient is and will be a question. The timing is crucial. Right now my old home is closed with curfews and they are trying to figure out how to safely get out of it, when the numbers in the safest parts again started to climb.

We aren't allowed social life now here, yet we are obligated to risk at work. We need to stay safe yet CFF shortened the trains, they are packed now. There is a lot of frustration around and being civil is important. Thanks for keeping up the standards.

I understand the need to have different opinions on new situations. And the CV status quo actually changes daily.

We'll soon have the third wave to discuss..

Once we all get together for xmas shopping, drinking and eating we should be nicely infected just in time to head off to slopes and cram together for the push/shove/fight to get on the chairlifts and tele cabins.

February should be a dejavu .. Schools will close in March and we'll all be fine for easter again..

Yes. Prague after zero wave 1 (shut borders, shut everything), wave 2 which was the worst (there probably is a logical link to zero wave 1) now enters wave 3 when the rest of the country is still struggling with wave 2. Looking at that, covid á la carte depending on each country's circumstances - even countries like CZ with an army of high quality and cheap medical staff or CH with a lot of money, cannot repeat lockdowns. Vax I think will help but again, timing it and having population support will be difficult. There is fatigue from some part of population sacrificing more than others. People on homeoffice imho risk job stability, people at work risk health.

Of course.

Minus the schools closing, me thinks.

This may come as a surprise to you, but this is really the case! The "rules" are arbitrary and are not applied uniformly, certain untouchables are able to say what they want without reprimand or reproach, there's no transparency, accountability or regulation. Questions or criticism over decisions taken are either deleted or shut down. Reported posts go ignored and even private messages requesting clarification go unanswered.

To compound that you have moderators launching scathing personal attacks, something that you're supposed to be responsible for policing against! Given all that, I think my criticism was markedly tame!
