Actually, it's the reversion to insults and abuse that keep me going. A good cause does not require such an arsenal. If you were to step away from from your laptop and this comfortable forum where the heretics are outcast you would see that the majority of people have moved on from masks and lockdowns. On busses, trains and in the street, many people aren't wearing them anymore. It's unenforceable, the fines aren't working and yet infections are halving every two weeks.
| | | | |
Where are infections halving every two weeks? You also insult folk. | Quote: | | | | | Of course you do, I wouldn't expect anything else! Aside from the small matter that you appear to have misunderstood what I wrote, it is of little wonder you fail to see my argument as "good".
When you surround yourself with people who revalidate your beliefs, and where information is reinforced and confirmed by the company you keep (i.e. here), it is little wonder that you feel I am not on the "good" side of the argument. I'm sure if Kittster is feeling generous enough to share their wisdom then he/she can explain all about communal reinforcement and social conformity.
Fere libenter homines id quod volunt credunt.
You seemingly inhabit a sphere of confirmation bias. Is remarkable you remain so blinkered. And if Greenmount misunderstood then so did I. Anyone can dust off a Latin phrase or two, doesn't actually lend weight to your "argument". | Quote: | | | | | You are a master in misinterpreting things and also quite keen on insulting people............... which is the classic sign of? | | | | | So many things. None of them good. | Quote: | | | | | I am not being insulting, I was trying to explain why the environment here is not conducive to the formation of independent assessment and opinion.
To return to the subject at hand though. It may come as many a disappointment to those that hope for fines to be a sufficient deterrent that to date only around 100 on the spot fines have been handed out on UK public transport, with only around 200 fines elsewhere in the country for mask non-compliance.
Would be interesting to see the data from Switzerland. | | | | | When do you form independent opinion? You opine quite vociferously and attempt to shout down anyone who doesn't agree. I keep mentioning your presentation of opinion-as-fact - shouting loudest does not make you right. | Quote: | | | | | I see a lot of people insulting you because they disagree with your opinion. It is unfortunate and kudos for staying civil.
...Thanks for keeping up the standards.
I understand the need to have different opinions on new situations. And the CV status quo actually changes daily. | | | | | Seriously? Not expecting the courtesy of a civil response from you as you will no doubt classify any comment from me as beyond the pale, but do you actually believe TC is civil? Maintaining standards, my arse. Your standards, maybe. | Quote: | | | | | This is like reading from a parallel universe. | | | | | Is bizarre how tone deaf some folk can be. | Quote: | | | | | This may come as a surprise to you, but this is really the case! This I actually agree with, although I suspect we are viewing the same issue from vastly different perspectives.
The bit I bolded is possibly my favourite part of this forum. Still waiting for an admin bod to explain a GDPR breach that was perpetrated. Reminds me of an old boss I once had: spent the first year prefacing every meeting with "this isn't the time or place for questions."

Everybody: let's stop spouting unqualified opinions and professing to know more than anyone else about prevention of COVID-19.
Please watch this short video made by a front line medical practitioner. Covid: US doctor's video simulates what dying patient sees
"I promise you two things:
"Wearing a mask is not as uncomfortable as having a piece of plastic put into your airway to help you breathe, and certainly, potentially meeting the end of your life.
"And I promise you that personal liberty doesn't matter when you die."
This doctor doesn't look hysterical to me. Just very fatigued, saddened and almost resigned.

Some good sense from the World Health Organization | Quote: | | | | ]The World Health Organization (WHO) is tightening its mask guidelines, telling people who live in areas where the coronavirus is still spreading to wear masks at all times in a variety of public places.
The new guidelines, rolled out on Tuesday, specify that those entering stores, workplaces and schools with low ventilation should make sure that they are wearing a mask. WHO is also asking that people to wear masks if they cannot keep a physical distance of at least three feet from others within an enclosed area.
The guidelines also call for children 12 and older to wear masks and state that face coverings should be worn outdoors if it is not possible to socially distance.

I went to Weil am Rhein this afternoon to send some parcels home. I bought a takeaway tea and a small piece of cake from the bakery at the entrance of Rewe and sat out in the square there with it, as far away from the mall as possible, facing towards Basel. A security guy came marching across from nowhere and told me I had to pull my mask up.

It may surprise you but a lot of people enjoy putting on makeup because it makes us feel good and not because the rest will think it looks good.. The only reason why I stopped using the lipstick was because it went all over my cloth mask and it became annoying to clean that up.. | The following 2 users would like to thank AndreaBC for this useful post:
