Try being totally deaf and being 100% dependent on lipreading....

....but, we Deafies can ask (and it is allowed by the Govt. regulations) that the person speaking with us, lifts her/his mask for the duration of the conversation and keeps the recommended distance.

For instance, my GP takes off his mask during my appointment with him, but I wear one.

I also carry credit card sized, officially issued (by the National Deaf association) cards with me in 4 languages, that I can show discreetly to bank teller/shop clerks etc to inform them that I am auidologically handicapped ( isn't that PC? ) and need to lipread, without the entire shop/bank whatever knowing of my plight.

Personally, I think we should partition everything between those who want to lockdown and wear masks and those who don't. You can have alternating carriages on the bus and slots for shopping time. Then everybody can decide for themselves.

The carefree group should hopefully achieve herd immunity quickly as they go to clubs and concerts and we'll all be good.

Open carriages on trams and handcars on rails, right?

Does anyone really want to go back into lockdown? Really?

It’s coming.
I'd be quite happy for hotspot areas to be locked down.

I don’t think we can afford to go into lockdown again.
There never was one in CH, i.e. no hard restriction of personal movement was in place.
That is, CH-wide, I know some cantons (Ticino) had it somewhat stricter at the start, but don't recall to which extent (as in e.g. Italy with "permits").

Maybe the people in hotspots should be 'quarantined' instead of them spreading themselves around CH.

Just as I was starting to feel like a live national news broadcaster, it got hilarious - students all had their "news" contributions. Reporters!

The internationally active syndicate of mask producers. They were hosting last years bilderberger conference..... what a coincidence.

Frankly I really don't care about you. If you want to catch Corona, that's fine by me. However, you do live in a collective society, where you meet other people. The rules and regulations on masks, social distancing, washing hands and so on, are more about protecting other people from you than the other way round. So please have the courtesy of respecting the rest of society not wanting to catch Corona, and don't go shopping or catch public transport.

I do too...I have asthma and chronic sinus issues (coupled with anxiety). If I can wear a mask, so can you!

Oh yea - & try breathing through a ventilator ...

"Nope, I don't want another 5 weeks of distance learning for my students"

I had planned retaking German B1 this autumn after deciding to have a break from lessons in the first half of the year, OH was considering it as well. We were put off by the prospect of possibly going down the route of masks in class also possibly having to take classes via Zoom (it just doesn't work for me). I also wanted to go back to the same school but as it's restricted to 8 per class plus the teacher I figured I might not be lucky enough to get a place anyway if there were returners from the earlier term.

I'm using Babbel and other means most weekdays at the moment and hope things will have settled down enough for me to return to class in January.

I had so many things lined up for 2020 that have just ground to a halt or fallen by the wayside. Life in general is a bit challenging at the moment

You are quite right to be cautious! Have you seen how many doctors and construction workers die every year from having to wear protective masks 8 hours a day?!11?!

Re: Mask dodgers

I never seen so many people needing to have their lunch in trains than after masks became compulsory, most bright mfs also take them off while talking on the phone.

Of course its completely different if it seems person has simply forgot but am talking about young people from which one can see its pure ignorance combined with me, myself and I mentality.

You don't even need to be half deaf to have trouble understanding some people behind their masks. Mumblers are bad enough without masks, not it's hopeless.

I'm lucky to have a friend in Zug who told me that masks are a must in shops in canton Zurich starting tomorrow. (while Zug is still mask-free).

This morning I saw a group of youngsters hanging out on the side of the street, all wearing masks. I was a bit puzzled until I realized it was a bus stop. So here they seem to stick to the rule.
