Mask dodgers

Hi all!

Just curious to see how folk feel about the above on public transport?

Do you a) give out dirty looks and continue to do so until they leave the bus/tram etc. b) confront them? or just ignore them?
I ask this as I have just travelled home with six of these selfish buggers and I'm personally sick of the self entitled few who think they are exempt from the rule.
If the ZVV,SBB,ZSG want people wearing masks on the public transport why are they not doing more to enforce it?

Maybe but i would be surprised if all six of them were? This is a daily occurrence on this route particularly.Perhaps a badge can be issued for the medically exempt to avoid any confusion but I imagine that could be abused to a certain effect.

Re: Mask dodgers

I have not seen any in our neck of the woods nor on the trans-suisse public transport cruises, people are very disciplined.

I guess you approach it the same way you react when you see any other tresspassing?

I think I would react if they were closer to me than the 2m or abnoxious.

I move away from them but I make my displeasure known if I'm being honest.
The masks are unpleasant but necessary if we are to avoid another lockdown.
Alot of people seem to be under the illusion that the virus won't be a problem for them. I am diabetic so I am very aware that I am in a high risk category. I just wish people were less selfish tbh.

I feel for you and I agree with your observations...I think some people need time to adjust to new situations and risks, and the fact your situation is not theirs. I have to say that one of the reasons people in GE and VD really do comply is that we are exposed a lot more than other cantons. Another thing is, moving a lot across CH makes me travel with others who move across as well and we know the drill.

I wish you a lot of mindful and caring fellow travellers.

x

PS - tell them so they know.

If I do not want to ignore then this is generaly the best course of action. It works wonders for me with those asses who drop cigis on the ground. I may also back it up with one word describing my contempt. But no more.

Remember this country is all about doing yout thing and not stepping on others toes. But certainly this example deserves mild action. Just keep control and don't get angry.

Re: Mask dodgers

There are unfortunately a number of mask scofflaws on the trains I take.

There is no enforcement that I can see.

(Granted, I rarely take the train so mine is not a representative sample.)

---

I always have an extra unopened package of paper masks in my bag. If someone near me does not have a mask on and seems approachable, I offer them the package. Some accept.

Yes, I am turning into one of those old ladies.

---

FYI for those making masks:

I have switched to the 3D/Octagon/Origami mask pattern. It's far more comfortable, especially in warmer weather. The rigid structure gives you more 'nose room'. If you are mainly wearing masks to commute, I highly recommend this pattern. (There are a gazillion examples and tutorials on youtube.)

Re: Mask dodgers

I have only seen one person pulled up about not wearing a mask and that was on a tram in Zurich.
The trains aren't so much the issue as they send the security guys to police the trains on a regular basis. The local bus service is a joke though.
If the temperature is comfortable I will walk rather than using the bus.

Meloncollie carrying paper masks and offering them is very clever. I might consider that.

Yes, there's so many people medically exempt from wearing a mask while simultaneously taking the bus to work during rush hour.

you miss the point. I'll explain.

the post you quote is a cynical take that believes they're not medically-exempt but rather claiming to be. And that they should just wear a mask for the greater good and show they can be socially responsible.

Point 1. That means wearing a mask properly and not storing it on a contaminated elbow before wearing it again
Point 2. Wearing a mask is not the end of the world; nobody really likes it but if we can make it last 2 years not 4 or 5 years, it helps.

I laugh at the mask wearers, doing as theyre told without understanding the negative health risks of wearing the mask. They think these N95 masks will stop a disease which is 0.1 micrometers in size, when even the CDC states they will not stop COVID.

*Sigh!* *Big Sigh!* your virus maybe 0.1 microns... But! You are not breathing in or exhaling a dusty likkle virus all on it´s onesies. It´s suspended in a substrate, like your slobber´n´snot.
I do have to laugh at the CO2 fearmongering, if that were true I would be long dead or a gibbering brain-dead wreck from wearing a helmet when riding my bike.

Therefore masks, even the most flimsy ones, are a great barrier, so stay safe and wear a frikking mask.

Re: Mask dodgers

Compliance seems to vary between Cantons.
I have been on quite a few trains this month in Canton Bern. Everyone was wearing a mask.
In fact the only time I have encountered someone not wearing a mask was on a bus in Basel.
In the UK compliance is very poor on public transport. I would say roughly a third of passengers don't bother. They get dirty looks from the rest of us, but very few people actually challenge. OK, some will have a medical reason, but not many.

Re: Mask dodgers

Pandalicious, Actually, the CDC does recommend wearing masks:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...coverings.html

Update 28 June 2020.

Oh and by the way, a quick google shows that the document you referenced purporting to be from the CDC has been fact checked by several outlets as likely a fake, and the info it contains judged to be mostly false:

https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-f...-idUSKCN24I2PP

https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/f...ke/5486229002/

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/ef...ss-face-masks/

https://www.kbtx.com/2020/07/17/frau...-social-media/
(The above shows the image you linked)

The clue should have been the use of all caps. Generally not the CDC's writing style.

The CDC has addressed many aspects of the use of respirators for professionals and face masks for the public. The agency discusses pros, cons, correct usage, incorrect usage - and risks of incorrect usage. It's an evolving discussion. Take a deep dive into the real CDC site sometime, it's interesting reading.

Pity you didn’t consult with Snopes before you posted.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/ef...ss-face-masks/

Quote:
Mostly False
About this rating
What's True
N95 respirators with valves do allow unfiltered exhaled air to reach others, increasing the risk of spreading infection. Cloth and surgical masks do not protect the wearer from airborne infection. Cloth masks also get dirty easily, which is why OSHA and CDC recommend regular washing.
What's False
However, contrary to the posts, OSHA and CDC have not recommended against wearing face coverings of any kind. Also contrary to the posts, cloth and surgical masks are not entirely ineffective because they prevent the wearer from transmitting infection to others through droplets. Surgical masks also protect wearers from getting potential infections via droplets. In addition, people who wear these masks are in little to no danger of breathing in too much carbon dioxide.

As I undertstand it, the mask is mainly to protect others And if everyone wears one, they are as protected as possible.

Don't worry about CO2 levels, there has surgeons wear them all day long without dropping dead

Re: Mask dodgers

Well I've had enough of the mask Nazis snitching and staring at me on public transport. I just stare back or when someone is rude to me I am rude back. Why everyone on this thread is accepting this bullshit is beyond me, a so called virus that the govt uses a PCR test that cannot even detect the virus - don't believe me? look up who invented the test and stated it cannot be used to test for viruses. Positive results can be turned on and off by adjusting the PCR amplification multiplier.
Just shows how easy it is to propagandise the sheeple who will comply out of fear and cowardice. Remember when it was for just a few weeks to flatten the curve? Now looking at forced vaccinations (no vax no pay as an Australian bureaucrat suggested yesterday) , removal of any family members by police to Covid centers. Never happen I hear you say? Its the ing law now in Melbourne and God knows what next. No problem enforcing this tyranny, plenty here to do the stazi dirty work.
