For instance Engelberg will restrict theirs from 8 persons to 4 with masks.

Big cable cars will restrict to 50% capacity and in most cases you must take a gondola or cable car to the chair lifts.

Anyone who has flown out of Zurich recently will know social distancing does not happen.

It’s a purely financial decision nothing else as the ski industry brings a hell of more money in than a Christmas market.

Im just pointing out that there is no uniformity in their decisions and Are based on pure financial reasoning.
If there are hundreds of people, as per usual years, everyone crushes together, whether that's in the gondola, or in the queue for the gondola/cable car.
In the summer I took the Zermatt funicular up to Bort(?) And it was rammed full. Their answer to the crowds trying to get on the Gonnergratbahn was make them queue outside, but TIS, so again cheek and jowl. I think anyone going skiing who think the authorities have their back, and anti-covid measures will be robust, will be sorely disappointed.
Agree 100% it's all about money. You only have to look at the UK university debacle. Invite thousands of students back to get the fees and accommodation dosh, then move tuition mostly online when lo and behold, the covid outbreaks start.

If anybody skis, takes a flight it is on their own back as the authorities here have no coherent policy. The closing of the Christmas market is just a public relations exercise when you consider there are little or no measures in place for skiing, flying etc.

I do intend to ski this winter and take Maximum precautions possible to protect myself and others. If I get Covid it’s on my own back, my job takes me into situations frequently where Covid is certainly a possibility to catch so I either had it or will get it lockdown or no lockdown.

Montreux plans to do something alternative to it's traditional market. Only roofs, no walls, everyone seated and wearing a mask. Not sure if this is still happening or cancelled too.

Unfortunately, the scaled down Montreux event has since been canceled: guidle.com/am2k0B

We have a poffertjes pan at home so we can have all the advantages of the Xmas market without having to push our way past crowds and stalls selling overpriced tat.

I heard that the Bern one was still on
It is unfortunately... this city is ran by a bunch of corrupt idiots. They also supposedly closed all bars and 95% of them are still open in my neighborhood...still not sure how that is happening. I felt slightly better about the xmas market once I heard that no food or drinks would be sold...however, I saw yesterday that the yearly giant Alpland hut is still being built. It is basically a large party chalet where tons of drunk people gather every year to continue the party after visiting the market.

I am honestly very angry...you only hear French here on the weekends since the lockdown hit Swiss French visit our neck of the woods since everything is still open. Now all of the covidiots of Switzerland will be coming our way since we are the only city stupid enough to still hold a Christmas market.
