Random furniture dumping

Someone beeped the intercom today. Since it's Sunday and I wasn't expecting any mail or delivery, I ignored it. I can hear my neighbours' intercoms getting pinged as well, so clearly someone was spamming the intercom.

Someone let them in and I peeked down the stairwell to see some people moving furniture in. I figured that someone new is moving in and probably forgot the keys in the apartment.

30 minutes later I opened my door and saw broken shelves in front of my apartment door. It was flush against my door frame blocking my exit.

Is this a thing in Zurich? People just randomly entering other apartments to dump furniture? What am I supposed to do with broken furniture now? Do I get fined if I left it in the corridor? Seriously WTF man.

Report it to the police and your landlord.

I've never heard of such a thing, so no, I wouldn't say this is a thing in Zurich, or anywhere in Switzerland.

Are the shelves really smashed to bits, or could it be that what looks broken to you is still okay for someone else? Or even if broken, perhaps they mean something to that hypothetical person you think may be moving in.

What's the situation now, an hour later? Anyone moving in, or moving out? Shelves collected? More dumped?

Watch out, dude! Could be the voodoo woman of SG is moving in https://www.englishforum.ch/daily-li...-building.html

Just be glad you don't have the neighbour we had in SG. She was Cuban and practiced some form of Santeria in our common laundry room. I'd find incense, candles, and the skeletons of small animals laid out in a little shrine. She also stuffed the electrics closet with CDs.

Toss it out the door.
Or stack it up against a different neighbour's door - probably closer than the front door

Re: Random furniture dumping

Just an update.

Contacted the landlord with pictures asking if I should call the police. Landlord replied saying that the shelves were bought off a 2nd hand market place.

The landlord's address was given, but the seller didn't bring it there. Instead the seller delivered it to the apartment my landlord was leasing out. Also the seller didn't tell my landlord about when the delivery would be made.

So...
1. How did the seller dig up address information about a rental property that wasn't given?
2. How did the seller know which apartment unit to deliver to? No names are on the apartment doors, only on the intercom and mailboxes.

Mysteries of the universe. Also to answer another question, the shelves weren't smashed up, but the hinges were clearly ripped out.

Happy Fathers' Day everyone.

Maybe the landlord used to live in the property and hadn't updated their Ricardo profile.
