"One should not simply ride a Zuri rollt bike outside Zurich"

It's been a long time since I wrote a thread in here. Then, I enjoyed a lot the exchange of thoughts and found it interesting to learn how others think and what motivations they have. I hope this time it will
be similar.

Last Saturday I went biking along Bodensee lake shore from Rorschach to Konstanz. I do not own a bicycle, so I went to HB's Zuri rollt and rented mechanical one (20 CHF deposit), bought a train ticket for it and for myself and went by train to Rorschach.

While eating lunch at Coop restaurant, I was photographed and observed by some 50 y.o-ish woman sitting behind me. My bike was standing next to my table (I was eating outside the building). When I stood up to throw away the take-away box and used bio-plastic cutlery, the lady accosted me and said: "You should not ride this bike here. It is not for the whole Switzerland". I was confused, because I did not understand why she would pay attention to it. I replied, that I will give it back later and that I rented it. Having said that, I went off for my ride.

In here, I would like to complain about the German speaking woman who tried to fulfill the citizen's obligation to pay attention to wrongdoing, but failed miserably. Yes, she did. F.y.i, later that day I asked at the HB's office of Zuri rollt if it is allowed to ride their bikes anywhere in Switzerland and they confirmed it is ok. Why I think she made a mistake and was not excused to make it? She was not sure about her opinion, yet she wanted to show me I was wrong. I did not argue with her without being 100% sure about my side, so I just left without discussing it more. Now I know, that in case someone else in future comments on Zuri rollt bikes usage, I will make this person feel worse after realizing he or she is not right. Maybe someone else will benefit from this knowledge too. In the end, who does not like to be right and feel this precious satisfaction of pointing out the other side being wrong?

You picked the perfect place to post this.

Good info that's it's okay to rent those bikes and take them anywhere.

One thing you can't know: The lady might have been sure about her opinion. It crossed my mind she might have suspected you of steeling the bike?
Next time something like this happens, take their phone-no. and set them straight after fact checking.

No, they're absolutely free! You have to present your ID and pay a refundable deposit of Fr. 20, and then you can use them all day long. There's only a fee if you don't get the bike back before their closing hours.

You new here? Good for you that you didn't enter into an argument with her and minded your own business.

To be fair, they advertise it as a way to get to know Zürich while supporting their financially strapped residents and refugees. However, if the agency says it's OK to take your bike beyond the Zürich borders, then clever you for doing it!

Where on earth was my mind going..

She'd fit in just fine on this forum. Maybe she's already in this forum and likes to groan at people who share their stories.

I suppose she's only Karen if she asked to speak to the manager.
