| | Hard Sell
Just had a lovely facial paid for by my daughter as a birthday present, in Basel. Unfortunately after it was finished the lady said "I am just getting my colleague", ok, then she came in and said "I am the skin professional, basically your skin is crap and you need to buy these products and have 10 treatments, cost is 3300 chf reduced from 8500 chf, just for you today"......a bit flustered, I said, thanks for the info, I will think about it. "No", she said sternly, "you have to decide now", then I said, thanks, but no. She got quite shirty with me, as I dared refuse her offer and obvious commission.
What a cheek, if you are paying for a service to have a relaxing treatment and then be bombarded by pushy sales people. It really peed me off and ruined my morning. Should I complain?

You already did complain (here), leave it at that and forget all about it. Hope you at least feel good/pretty/young .... what ever one is supposed to feel after a facial. | This user would like to thank curley for this useful post: | |

I would say don't complain. Which language was all of this handled in, out of curiosity? I ask because it's so easy for misunderstandings to arise when people are trying to make sense of things in a language they may not know well, and it can be easy to read something into a tone in a language based on us not knowing what's normal, and not.

I imagine going to such a place it's mostly about the experience, get some personal attention, a break from daily life. My wife always comes home in good mood after her mani/pedi at least. You went home not feeling well at all, that's all that matters. I suggest not going back there to start with, but if you feel like you could always give them an online review (that's what they are there for).

These businesses rely on repeat business.
A one-off customer, coming with a Gutschein (voucher) is not repeat business and is possibly unlikely to come back even if the business fawns over the customer.
Turning this one-off into repeat business is a bit of a gamble but the business really has nothing to lose going for the hard sell - if the customer bites -they've got 3000 CHF, if they don't, they haven't lost anything.

How dare she say your skin in crap, with tactlessness like that I would not trust any product services they might be trying to sell.
I am sure your daughter agrees you have great skin.

Always telling me I needed to have a tooth-whitening or this or that fancy treatment and she had a special today-only half-price offer.
It ended up annoying me so much that I switched dentists.

There are two approaches to selling that I really cannot understand (from both seller and buyer point): "huge discounts just for you just today" and "cold calling".
Both of them just clearly say that the seller do not care at all about buyers need, long term satisfaction or balancing the price of the product with the quality but only in finding a way how to trick someone into a buying. So, an obvious and easy "no" to the transaction.
On the others side, it is clear that there are many customers who find in acceptable.

I think the word "trick" is misguided here, as it absolves people of their responsibility in the exchange. If we want to apply fault for materialism and such, then let's fairly fault both sides.
Plenty of businesses don't have enough resources (staff, software, hardware, office space, network bandwidth, time) to indulge in caring about anything but the bottom line, mindful most of commerce is not household brands, and most businesses fail.
I think it's a mistake to expect companies that involve a sales function to care about whether they do harm, or not, and a mistake to overlook the amount of people who spend large portions of their lives shopping, and posting on social media about shopping (have you seen the videos on unboxing that go viral?).

I would absolutely complain - you paid for a service, you were not happy with the result.
Whether they believe you or care is beside the point, they will either use the feedback or not, my guess would be not given the arrogance of the woman.
